Athletes and guys are your typical stereotype of people who use steroids. Do you want to know the truth? Well, the use of steroids doesn't belong to one specific gender, race, age, sport, or even being athletic or not.
Today, people as young as 8 years old could be using steroids, if they could get hold of the drug. It was reported in 1993, by the Canadian Center of Doping in Sports claimed that almost 83,000 children between the ages of 11 and 18 had been using anabolic steroids. I don't know how that fact affects you. But, to me that is scary. Because, that gives you a glimpse of what pre-teens and teenagers think they must do to play sports. Plus, there are the non-athletes and some athletes who take steroids to improve their appearance and self-image. And, just think they don't fully understand that even though in the short-run they may make them feel good, but in the long-run outcomes can be very serious. But, keep this in mind if a guy/girl sees a friend of his/her taking steroids and seems to have made them more athletic or achieve their goals, then more than likely they will want to use them too, and so on. Until, more of the U.S. population is using them.
And, when it comes to sports here are some of the many that have been reported to have users of anabolic steroids. Weightlifting, bodybuilding, football, track and field, cycling, swimming, archery, and shooting. Most people in sports use them to increase their lean muscle mass and strength. Even law enforcers think they need them to seem more effective.
But, despite all the illegal uses of anabolic steroids. There are some people who use them legally. If they are prescribed, they can be used for therapeutic value. And, also as a medicine for anemia, some breast cancers, osteoporosis, endometriosis, and hereditary angiodema. They can even be used on patients to improve their healing after surgery and their appetite.
So believe it or not, there really is no stereotype for users of anabolic steroids. Many people use them for many different reasons.
