Chameleo is perhaps my favorite patient. He's a true warrior but is misguided by his angst over his mutation.
Chameleo's "stealthmode" is considered the weakest of the Stealth Squad. Like his namesake, the chameleon, he can manipulate the pigment of his skin. So in order to capitalize on the ability, Chameleo needs to show as much skin as possible. This was taken into consideration during the design of the treatment. Spontaneous regeneration was necessary to make up for the fact that Chameleo couldn't wear armor if he was expected to utilize his stealth mode. From there, Dr. Langstrum included other abilities such as heightened senses and response times as well as the gecko-like ability to cling to textured surfaces. Chameleo's treatments were based on genetic manipulation, unlike the later models which involved radiation.
But it was the regeneration that caused trouble for Chameleo. The ability to shrug off bullet wounds and ignore lacerations came in handy in the field but it was also a curse. Each time Chameleo recovered, more reptilian DNA would hybridize with his own. His wounds have been healing in this mutated form for a while but it hasn't been until recently that his own DNA has been having difficulty dominating the hybridized.
Chameleo learns that he was not the first Stealth Soldier. There were two failures before him; one ending in disaster. Without proper care, Chameleo could lose his humanity and his dreams of leading a normal life would become impossible to reach. This is his motivation for partaking in Operation: Hidden Shadow.
Chameleo is resentful of his Stealth Squad team mates. Their stealthmodes and enhancements are more useful and, most importantly, completely stable.
He was the first successful Stealth Soldier and was, for years, the leader of the Stealth Squad. Even though his leadership skills, dedication, loyalty, and combat prowess were the greatest of every soldier in the program, he could not compete with GreyShadow's advantage: his stealthmode. And after botching a vital mission in Panama, he relinquished command to GreyShadow before it was taken from him. Making things worse was the addition of Stealth; a boy who could do what the three of them could all together. Chameleo holds nothing personal against Stealth, as long as the young one stays out of his way...
