May 2002 Forecast

Forecast Issued: 04.03.02

Week 1
High pressure will move into central Europe, which will ridge towards southern areas of the UK. Fronts will effect northern and western areas and it will be quite windy in the north. As fronts move south they will weaken quickly. At times the temperatures in the Southeast will be above normal.

Week 2
An active low-pressure system will move across the UK introducing a spell of heavy rain and strong winds. Ahead of this a southerly wind could develop leading to some warm air briefly moving up into the Southeast. Once the main system has moved through it will turn cooler as a ridge of high pressure moves into the west. There could be a few heavy showers in the south and east for a time.

Week 3
After a brief ridge of high systems will move east giving heavy rain to the north of the UK. A Low is then likely to develop to the west of France and start to push north. Much of England will have an easterly breeze, which will make it cold and cloudy along the East Coast. Scotland will become dry and sunny with warmer temperatures in the west.

Week 4
A small chance of warmer air reaching southern areas for a time. In the main Southern and eastern areas will be affected by showers or longer spells of rain. Northern and western area will be drier and sunnier with high pressure close by.
