June 2002 Forecast
Forecast Issued 06.04.02
Week 1
Winds will fall light as a low slowly fills. Showers will become fewer and lighter to give good spells of sunshine in most places. Temperature will be mostly around normal but may reach the low twenties in the Southeast. There is a risk that isolated sharp showers may develop in south areas with a chance of thunder. A few mist or fog patches are likely across England.
Week 2
High pressure will start to take control and give a nice dry spell will temperature near or just above normal. Mist and fog may form in eastern areas at times but burn back to the coast through the day. As the winds turn more southerly later it will start to turn warmer with temperatures reaching the high twenties in some places. This may spark the odd thunderstorm close to high ground over England and Wales.
Week 3
The high will pull away in to central and southern Europe to allow southerly winds for a short time making it feel hot and humid and sparking the odd thunderstorm through England and Wales. There is a small chance that some more active thundery activity may move out of France into southern areas. However this will not last and systems will soon move in from the west to bring some periods of rain and cooler and cloudier conditions with a breezy westerly wind.
End of the Month
With several lows over or near the UK there is likely to be unsettled conditions with spells of rain or showers at times. Depending on where a low forms will dictate what happens next. If a low forms in the western Mediterranean then Atlantic condition will take hold giving further rain or showers and average temperatures. However there is a good chance that the low will develop in the bay of Biscay and push fronts back north bringing winds up from southern Europe and giving very warm conditions over the UK with thunderstorms in the South-easterly flow.
