Alpha Omicron Pi was founded on January 2, 1897 at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York. AOII was founded by four remarkable young women: Jessie Wallace Hughan, Helen St. Clair Mullan, Elizabeth Heywood Wyman, Stella George Stern Perry. They pledged themselves, one to the other, on that January day and formed Alpha Omicron Pi to forever seal their friendship and the friendships of all future members.
Today, AOII is an international organization with 178 chartered collegiate chapters in the US and Canada, 323 chartered alumnae chapters and a growing membership of more than 120,000 sisters.

Crest
AOII is the only women's fraternity that does not use a crest. Our founders felt that the beauty and simplicity of our badge possessed enough significance to stand alone. Crests are medieval, and we are founded on Greek Ideals. Where other groups might use a crest, we display the rose.
