Nitro begins with
a shot of Vince McMahon on the Raw is War
set: "Imagine that," he says,
"Imagine me on a WCW set . . . I own
WCW, therefore, in its final broadcast, I
have an opportunity to address you the
WCW fans . . . The fate of WCW is in my
hands." He reveals that there will
be a special simulcast, shows his hands
and smiles.
Tony Schiavone
and Scott Hudson immediately acknowledge
McMahon's ownership of the company with
disbelief. They then relate that the
Night of Champions will involve the
defense of all WCW Titles.
Ric "the
Nature Boy" Flair comes out to the
customary "Thus Spake Zarathustra."
He enters the ring: "Did I, whooo,
hear Vince McMahon say that he was going
to hold WCW in his hands? Does that mean
you are going to hold Jack Brisco, Harley
Race, the Road Warriors . . . Ric Flair .
. . Steamboat . . . in the palm of your
hands? I don't think so." Flair
calls WCW the "greatest wrestling
organization in the world" before
invoking the names of Sting, Luger, the
Road Warriors, Arn Anderson and the Four
Horsemen. He claims that Vince McMahon,
Sr. had voted for Flair to be World
Champion in 1981 when McMahon was trying
to be an announcer. "We're not going
anywhere. You can't hold us in your hand.
. . When were you [McMahon] there? You
weren't. . . We're the greatest wrestling
company of all time . . . You can't
control us or our future." He then
calls out Sting -- whom he calls his
greatest opponent of all time. The fans
begin to chant "Sting" and
Flair tells him that he has to "beat
the man, in order to be the man."

The feed quickly
cuts to Raw is War from Cleveland. Both
the WWF logo and WCW Monday Nitro remain
on the screen as Paul Heyman and Jim Ross
relate to the fans that he has bought WCW
and will face his son Shane at
Wrestlemania.
McMahon enters
the ring and tells the fans that he is
both on TNN and TNT and that he has
bought "his competition." He
reveals that Time Warner is "practically
begging [him]" to buy WCW because no
one knows what to do with the company.
McMahon then reveals that he will only
sign the contract to cement the deal on
Wrestlemania this Sunday but only if Ted
Turner himself brings it to him. He
claims he "did it all on [his] own"
through his own effort and money. . . How
do you beat a billionaire? By becoming
one yourself." He then reveals that
Turner will be welcome to sit at
ringside, after bringing him the contract
to watch him beat Shane. Stephanie, his
daughter and Stratus will be in his
corner, he says, and Stratus will wheel
Linda, his wife, to the ring to be in
Shane's corner. "I could put WCW on
a shelf," and watch videos of Hulk
Hogan flex (he mimics the Hulkster) but
"he who laughs last, laughs best."
He then suggests that WCW be turned into
"a huge media conglomerate, much
like the WWF is today." McMahon asks
the fans their opinion on WCW superstars
that should be kept. He asks about Hogan
and Luger -- and receives a great deal of
negative response. More cheers rise at
the mention of Buff Bagwell, Booker and
Steiner. The fans then chant Goldberg (one
fan even has a sign). He then asks about
Sting, and gets a lukewarm response.
Goldberg's name then gets a large pop. He
then offers to fly down to the "redneck
Riviera" and give all of the WCW
wrestlers a piece of his mind. Running
down Panama City as a beer hall, he then
continues to relate that he will look all
of them in the face and tell them: "you're
fired. WCW is going on the shelf. It's
buried. And it will remain buried."
He then tells the fans that everyone
attempting to compete with him, like
Shane, will get buried. An "asshole"
chant starts and demands the fans treat
him with respect as the owner of the WWF
and WCW. Shane's music heralds his
arrival but he does not appear on the
ramp. Ross questions after his
whereabouts as Vince watches the Titan
Tron for him. The Titan Tron then reveals
Shane as being in Panama City -- with WCW
in the ring. He greets his father from a
"WCW ring" and tells him that
his "ego has gotten the best of you."
Telling him that the deal is finalized
but that he has bought WCW. He decrees
that WCW will kick his ass again --
"this Sunday at Wrestlemania."
Shane's music plays as Ross recapitulates
the situation. Heyman relates that "Shane
McMahon has screwed his old man."
Ross then reads a promo for Raw's main
event -- Stone Cold Steve Austin and the
Rock versus the Undertaker and Kane and a
commercial for Wrestlemania X-Seven airs
as Nitro ends. Thank you.
