my european experience

well, my trips to europe were by far the biggest influence in my decision to be a french major. i'll be attending the school for international training in vermont this fall to get my master of arts in teaching in french and my teaching degree. i would then like to get a job as a high school french teacher. i have been to france a few times, the first when i was 15 for 2 months during the summer. i lived with a family and visited everything in south-eastern france (including the beautiful pre-alps!). i also worked on the family's peach farm for a few weeks to bring in extra $. that was pretty cool.

my most recent trip to france was this winter with the principia abroad program. i went with 13 other amazing students and 2 adults to paris, bordeaux, and pau and had a wonderful time and perfected my french. i hope to have a page dedicated to this trip sometime soon, perhaps later this summer, when i have time... ha.

my middle trip to france was in 1998 for 4 months (oct-jan). i went to school at a school of french studies for foreign (non-french) students. see my grammar class in aix-en-provence

i took 10 hours a week of grammar, and 2 hours/wk of phonetics, translation, and french theatre and music. i lived with my french big bro, jerome, who was going to school at the french university next to mine. the school was in aix-en-provence, which is in one of the most beautiful areas on earth. this is my apartment on rue petite st. jean... it used to be a convent and is over 300 years old...

i spent my christmas vacation in italy with a japanese friend named kumi (who really only spoke french). we had such a blast - florence, rome, sorrento, capri, pisa... it was awesome.

i also went to amsterdam (holland) with my second cousin betsy and got an interesting cultural exprerience there... :) me and my mercedes in amsterdam (my future mercedes...)

i also took an october trip to barcelona spain with jerome and a few of his friends - what an incredible city.

my parents, grandparents (mom's parents), brother, and bud haley all came to visit me in december and we hung out in paris, avignon, and aix. that was really cool to see them too. (although i wish they had brought dan with them...)
