From A Nurse

The doula can make a great deal of difference in how a woman percieves her labor and birth. The doula is there for support of the woman, the family and to act as a "go between" with the medical/nursing staff.

Even if it is not the first labor and delivery for a woman, she can take the suggestions of the doula to try new or different comfort measures.

Stephanie was very supportive during the birth we did together. She was confident and knowledgable about different comfort measures, the stages of labor, and ways to support both the laboring mother and the family. She worked well as a team member with me. I do not know what kind of training she had, or how long she has been a doula, but she did her job very well. I really enjoyed working with her. It made my job easier to do and helped to make the labor easier as well.

What did you like best about having a doula in general?(from Stephanie's clients)

"She helped me understand exactly what was going on, and what to expect. She was very calming and helped me relax."

~ Kim.

"The emotional support, and ideas like lavender aromatherapy and the birthing ball. Drinking red raspberry leaf tea etc. I wanted to have a doula mainly for emotional support, but I had no idea that she could also help ease the pain physically as well."

~ Angela.

"It helped so much to have a woman constantly there
who knew how to help in just the right way."

~Katherine

"That we had discussed my desires before hand and she helped me focus on what I wanted and why. She provided information to obtain my desires."

~ Jennifer.

"That she knew the kinds of questions to ask to make me more physically comfortable."

~ Bonnie.

"Stephanie gave us ideas on how we could help because Bonnie was so concentrated on her laboring she was hard to communicate with. Before she came we wanted to do something but we were not sure how or what."

~ Dixie (Bonnie's mother).

"That she was always encouraging me to hang in there and that really helped, plus she gives a GREAT massage!"

~ Keena.

I actually had been somewhat reserved,
doula in this case, was extremely helpful!
