National Campaign for Firework Safety
Our aim is to promote the safe use of  fireworks
Press release October 20 2002, from National Campaign for Firework Safety
Now that the Firemen's strike has being confirmed, we would urge all organisers of bonfires and firework displays to contact their local Fire Brigade.
Discuss with the fire-fighters your plans for the coming Guy Fawkes. Now is the time to iron out the problems. Ask the Fire-fighters to carry out a site inspection, and go through with them your plans of the event.
If your event takes place whilst the Fire-fighters are on strike, consider changing the date, either bring it forward or delay it. Again take the advice of the Fire-fighters.
Thinking about the current situation, and, I can see a reason for the police, ambulance and fire-fighters. Even for electricians, and gasmen, as well as car mechanics, but for the life of me I cannot think of a reason when I will pick up the phone and say "Help, I need a politician".
