First of all, it is important that you understand the nature of the virtual world you are visiting. Gorean chat rooms are an extension of the Gor novels, popular during the late 1960's, 70's, and well into the late 80's here on Earth. These books were written by John Norman, the pen name of a sociology professor who applied his personal interest in the areas of human sexuality and ancient culture to the creation of a fantasy world wherein he could explore these topics. His creation spanned three decades and twenty-five novels, well over a million words of printed text. These books, though often frowned upon by the establishment, were best sellers, and many who read them understood the inherent philosophy within them and took them to heart, practicing aspects of the Gorean philosophy in their own lives.
FIRST OF ALL, WHAT IS GOR, ANYHOW?
GOR, noun.: literally, "The Home Stone." An object to be revered. The core of one's dwelling place; that which defines a place or those who dwell there. (origin: archaic Gorean)
Upon the counter-earth, there is nothing more sacred or more worthy of respect than a Home Stone. A Home Stone is the keystone, the center or heart of a place. When one speaks of Home Stones, it is customary to stand, for by so doing one does honor to the very topic of conversation. When one uses the word Gor upon the counter-earth, one is referring to the ancient Home Stone of all Gorean peoples... the planet which supports them, nurtures them and allows them to live.
A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE PLANET GOR
Gor is a world not unlike Earth, though slightly smaller in size. It has three moons, and due to its different mass and size the world of Gor has a lighter gravity field than Earth, making feats of seemingly superhuman strength into everyday occurances. Upon Gor a man can jump higher, lift more weight, and throw rather heavy objects with great speed and force. It is therefore quite understandable why Gor is a deadly place . Despite all of this, Gor is a beautiful (if savage) planet, unspoiled by pollution , and the whole planet is basically an unspoiled paradise. Gor exists, according to the "Sun Shield theory," in the same orbit as the planet Earth, and circles the same sun... It is therefore placed in such a way that the sun always obstructs direct view of it from Earth.
