Donald's father was a COLEMAN and his mother was a JESSE.

Anna's father was a FERGUSON and her mother was a MORRIS.

Ann and I grew up in the mid West. I guess you would call us country folks. The town where I was "raised" was very small, where everyone knew your business and you knew theirs. At that time Smithville, MO had a population of about 1,000 people, if you counted all the dogs. Of course the town was also populated with hogs, pigs, chickens, and an assortment of others animals.

The founder of Smithville was Humphrey Smith. He was born in New Jersey in 1774 .His father was Abraham Smith, who was of German Partentage. The family came to New Jersey in 1714 . His mother was a Davenport. Humphrey married Nancy Walker in 1803, who was born in 1783.

Humphrey and Nancy had six sons and one daughter. When they started their journey West the oldest son was only ten years old. The family founded Smithville and had a mill here on the Little Platte river. The mill was operated by Humphrey and his sons, and all the people around the area would bring their grains to Smith's mill to have them ground.

Mrs. Howard Taylor and Mrs. Harold Harris wrote a very informative history of Smithville. The name of the book is NOTES FROM YESTERDAY.

If you have additions, corrections, or you would like to know more about the families, we would be happy to hear from you. Anna has been working with this genealogy for about fourty years and has lots of information on the families connected to the above families.
