Coleman
We know very little about the Coleman family. Tradition has it that my grandfather was
orphand when he was but 7 or 8 years old. He was supposed to have gone to live with
an uncle. We have been unable to substanuate this. We knew that he had been born in
Maryland and his fathers name was Jesse and his mothers name was Margaret Kelley. The
family didn't know too much more about him.
With this information we were able to locate the family on the 1850 census, living in Cumberland
Allegany County, Maryland. There were a great many Colemans living in Cumberland at that time
but was not able to tie any to our family.
My great great grandfather Jeremiah Coleman was born about 1805 somewhere in PA. He married Eliza Ann (unknown) They had at least three sons. 1. name unknown 2. Samuel born about 1830 3. Jesse Hiram born 1832. He had moved to Maryland before the 1830 census.
My great grandfather Jesse Hiram born 1832, married Margaret Kelley born 1831. A son John Hiram was born to this family in 1849, just in time for the 1850 census. Jesse and Margaret were supposed to have had three more sons and a daughter, but have been unable to find any of them.
My grandfather, John Hiram started West at a very young age. The family thinks it was as young
as thirteen. Can you imagine a thirteen year old boy starting West into indian country. John Hiram was born Dec. 12, 1849 and died 15 April 1935. He married Nancy Louisa Lutes born 15 Jan. 1865 died 8 Aug. 1952, on 12 Dec. 1886. The family was blessed with five boys and one daughter.
My father was Daniel Emmett born 17 Aug 1898 in Platte County MO. He married Artie Lee Jesse
born 16 Sep 1899, on 21 Dec. 1921. Daniel died 18 Sep. 1952 and Artie died 24 Oct. 1972. They had one son Donald Jesse born 18 Mar. 1923 and on 20 Aug. 1950 married Anna Louise Ferguson born 8 Mar. 1927
We have been blessed with two sons their wives and four grand children.
Kevin Daniel Coleman and wife Cynthia Bellomy. Their children are Joshua Daniel
Coleman and Preston Lee Coleman.
Donald Ramon Coleman and wife Kathryn Marie Nelson. Their children are Rachael
Anne Coleman and Jonathan Ramon Coleman.
