"Jacqui, phone!" yelled her brother from downstairs. "Just a sec, I'm picking up in my room. Ok you can hang up." Jacqui said. "hello?" "Hey Jacqui. It's Katie." "Hi Katie how are you?" "Fine listen are you going to the dance tonight?" Jacqui sighed. Every year her dumb had a back to school dance. This year she didn't have a date. She wasn't really planning to go. "I don't think so Katie, I don't have a date." "Well you could've gone with Steve." Katie was referring to the guy who'd asked Jacqui to go with him. "Would you go with Steve?" Jacqui asked. "Well I don't know." Katie said. "Get real Katie, you'd never go out with him just like every other girl in the school! He's a total nerd." "you're right." Katie laughed. "But still you could go alone. I'm going." She added. "There will probably be tons of guys who will want to hang out and dance with you."Jacqui said. "there are loads of guys who like you too, I heard Sean wanted to ask you out but thought you were going with Steve." "Who's Sean?" Jacqui asked. "You know that guy who's with us in science." Katie said. "I still have no idea who you're talking about Katie." "Whatever! Will you please come anyway. Lace and that new girl Steph are going too and I doubt that Steph has a date on her first day of school and I know Lace doesn't. Amber is going with Abs I think, but just as friends but he'll probably look for girls all night and Amber will be stuck with us. I don't think there's much hope for Mel though. She and Scott probably won't separate all night. It's like they're joined at the hip or something." Katie laughed. Jacqui agreed with her but they were such a cute couple. Maybe she would go anyway. She'd have a chance to meet some guys. "Ok I'll go." Jacqui agreed with a sigh. "Great, what are you going to wear?"Katie asked. "Oh I don't know I guess I'll find something." Jacqui replied. "Boy by your level of excitement I'd think you're going to a funeral. This is a dance Jacui it's supposed to be fun! Cheer up!" "fine, bye Katie." Jacqui closed the phone before Katie could say another word. Maybe she really would meet some cute guys, she thought cheering up a little.

I want to be more than just a friend
"Hey Amber, feel like going to the dance tonight?" Abs asked.
"sure even though it will probably suck like everything our stupid school does." Amber answered. "Ya but let's go for the heck of it, ya know make fun of the teachers who dance." Abs said. "And maybe you could find some girls." Amber said playfully. She looked at Abs . She'd never actually noticed how cute he was. She'd always thought about Abs as just a guy. Her best friend. Lately though she had started to devolop more serious feelings for him. She knew she couldn't tell Abs. He'd freak out. Amber also knew there was no way he felt the same. Abs was always between girlfriends, always dating around and treating Amber like a good friend. But that wasn't enough for her. He showed no signs of being attracted to her. Maybe someday he'd catch on to all the signals she was sending and finally notice her. "Amber go check the mail would you?" called her mom. "Sure mom. Abs I'll be back in a sec." Amber went outside and opened the mailbox. There was a letter for her mom, a phone bill and a letter addressed to her. She glanced at the return addy and saw it was from her friend Nikki. Nikki had lived in England but had moved to Florida 3 years ago. Amber tore open the envelope and read:
Hey Amber! What's up. How are Katie,Lace Mel and Jacqui? Hope Lacey's found a bf. Are Mel and Scott still together? I have such great news for you. I'm comin back to England! I guess my folks missed home so much they had to come back. Well I know you haven't heard from me in like a year. I got accepted to the SYAS, I know you go there, not sure bout the rest of the group. I hope I'll see everyone soon. I'm coming in 2 weeks. Say hi to everyone. I'll call when I get there. Luv ya-Nikki
Amber looked at the date on the letter. It was dated a week and a half ago. That meant Nikki was coming in 3 days! She couldn’t believe it. She ran upstairs and thrust the letter at Abs. He read it and said: "Ummm, Amber who's Nikki?" "Abs I can’t believe you don't remember Nikki. We used to hang with her all the time. She was part of our group." Amber playfully
smacked Abs with the letter. "Wait I think I remember her. Was she that tall blond girl?" "Yeah, I knew you'd remember. I’ve gotta call everyone and tell them, I've also gotta get ready for the dance." Amber said. "So I guess I'll get going. Pick you up at nine ok?" Abs said. "K. Bye!" "See ya." Abs said leaving the room. Amber picked up the phone and dialed Mel's number. “Hey Mel." She greeted her as Mel answered the phone. "You're never gonna guess this but Nikki is coming back." "To England. I can't believe it! When?”

I wish I hadn't come to this stupid thing!
Jacqui sighed. She was getting real bored. Steph and Lacey were standing next to her babbling on about some guy Lacey noticed. Katie had abandoned her when some random guy asked her to dance, Amber and Abs were dancing and Mel and Scott had dissapered about a half hour ago. She looked around for that Sean guy who supposedly had a crush on her. She had no idea how the hell she'd recognize him if she saw him. She saw a cute guy across the room staring at her. He had brown eyes and very short brown hair. Why was he staring at her she wondered. Her dress hadn't fallen off or anything and she couldn’t possibly have something stuck in her teeth since she hadn’t eaten a thing. She guessed she was about to find out when the cute guy came over to her and smiled. She smiled back. “Hey I'm Sean. You’re Jacqui right? We have science together. Jacqui was amazed. She couldn't believe this was Sean. She had expected him to be some kind of a nerd with glasses or zits. Or both! Not a gorgeous guy. "So you wanna dance Sean?" she asked. "Sure." Sean replied.
Melanie
I Don't Want To Hear This
Mel and Scott were sitting outside the school. "This dance is so lame. Don't you think?" Melanie attempted to start a conversation. She couldn't believe she was talking to her boyfriend about the dance. They should have something to talk about. They were a couple for god's sake. "Mel I think we should talk." Scott looked at her with a serious look in his eyes. Melanie started to get worried. Scott was almost never serious. Mel got really nervous, she was pretty sure she knew what was coming-he was going to dump her. Her heart started beating as Scott opened his mouth to talk.....
