KURT COBAIN

May 10, 1965: Krist Novoselic is born.

February 20, 1967: Kurt Cobain is born.

January 14, 1969: Dave Grohl is born.

Fall 1985: Kurt meets Krist. They play in several bands together, including Stiff Woodies.

In 1986: Kurt recorded four track demo 'Fecal Matter' with Krist on bass and Aaron Burkhart on drums.

December 1987: Kurt, Krist and drummer Aaron Burckhard form the original lineup of Nirvana in Aberdeen, Washington.

January 23, 1988: Nirvana records a 10-song demo with the "Godfather of Grunge," legendary Seattle producer Jack Endino. Sub Pop co-honcho Jonathan Poneman hears the tape and offers to put out a Nirvana single. The band accepts.

In 1988: Nirvana signed to Seattle label 'Subpop' and they recorded Bleach for only $600.

October 30, 1988: Kurt smashes his first guitar.

June 1989: Bleach is released on Sub Pop. Nirvana embarks on a month-long U.S. tour.

September 25, 1990: Dave Grohl, former drummer for Washinton, D.C.'s Scream, joins Nirvana.

October 1990: Nirvana briefly tours England with L7.

April 17, 1991: Nirvana first plays Smells Like Teen Spirit.

April 30, 1991: Nirvana signs with DGC Records.

August 1991: Nirvana opens for Sonic Youth on a European festival tour, which includes a landmark performance at the Reading Festival. The tour is documented in the film 1991: The Year Punk Broke.

September 21, 1991: American Tour for Nevermind begins in Toronto.

September 24, 1991: Nevermind is released.

October 12, 1991: Nevermind is certified a gold album.

November 1991: The band starts a six-week European tour as Nirvanamania sweeps the United States. MTV airs "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video constantly; the song is hailed as an anthem for a generation.

January 11, 1992: Nevermind hits No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart and Nirvana plays Saturday Night Live.

January/February 1992: Nirvana tours Australia, Japan and Hawaii.

February 19, 1992: Hormoaning is released in Australia, and Japan.

February 24, 1992: Kurt Cobain marries Courtney Love in Waikiki, Hawaii.

April 1992: Nirvana appears on the cover of Rolling Stone.

June/July 1992: Nirvana tours Europe.

August 18, 1992: Frances Bean Cobain is born.

September 8, 1992: Nirvana plays Lithium at MTV music awards, wins 2 awards.

December 15, 1992: Incesticide, a collection of B-sides and rarities, is released. It goes gold the following spring.

April 9, 1993: Nirvana plays a concert at San Francisco's Cow Palace to raise awareness of and generate aid for rape survivors in Bosnia-Herzegovina. L7, the Breeders and Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy are also on the bill.

September 1993: Nirvana wins Best Alternative Video award at MTV Video awards.

September 21, 1993: In Utero is released.

October 18, 1993: Nirvana starts a three-month tour of North America.

November 19, 1993: Nirvana tapes an all-acoustic show for "MTV Unplugged" at Sony Studios in New York. Cris and Curt Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets sit in on three Meat Puppets songs.

December 16, 1993: MTV airs Nirvana's "Unplugged" show.

January 7, 1994: Nirvana plays the Seattle Arena. It will be the band's last U.S. show.

February 6, 1994: Nirvana embarks on a tour of Europe.

March 1, 1994: The Final Nirvana show is played in Munich.

March 4, 1994: Kurt Cobain is hospitalized after a suicide attempt in which he washed down about fifty prescription painkillers.

March 5, 1994: Kurt awakens from coma, asks for milkshake.

March 8, 1994: Kurt leaves hospital under his own power.

April 1994: Kurt enters a detox program in Los Angeles but he escapes from the detox center.

April 5, 1994: Kurt commits suicide.

April 8, 1994: Kurt Cobain is found dead of a self-inflicted shotgun wound, he commited suicide 3 days ago.

April 10, 1994: Memorial Service held in Seattle, Courtney reads from suicide note...

September 1994: Nirvana wins Best Alternative Video for Heart-Shaped Box.

November 1, 1994: Nirvana's "MTV Unplugged" performance is released as MTV Unplugged in New York. Two tracks not aired on the MTV broadcast appear on the album.

November 15 1994: Nirvana: Live! Tonite! Sold Out! video is released in US.

October 1, 1996: The Nirvana live album, From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah, is released, featuring performances from 1989 to 1994.

In 1996: Kurt and Courtney, a documentary film about conspiracy theories made by Nick Broomfield, is released.

In 1997: Grohl and Novoselic formed the Nirvana L.L.C. partnership with Courtney Love, who manages Cobain's estate.

In 2001: Legal battle between Courtney Love and the remaining members of the band prevented the release of the Nirvana boxset planned for the 10th anniversary commemoration of the release of "Nevermind".

August 15, 2001: Heavier than Heaven, a Kurt Cobain's biography made by Charles R. Cross, is released.

September 30, 2002: Legal battle between Courtney Love and the remaining members of the band is over. A greatest hits album will be released in Fall 2002, and the Nirvana boxset in 2004.

October 29, 2002: Nirvana, a one-CD history of the band that includes 'You Know Youre Right,' the last recording that Kurt made with Dave and Krist, is released.

November 4, 2002: Journals, a collection of Cobain's journal excerpts, is released.

November 2003: A paperback edition of the Journals is released with some new content.

April 5, 2004: 10th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death
