One day, a coconut fell on Cattski's head and while the offensive
erstwhile fruit meant no harm, it somehow prodded our heroine into
sharing her true talent to the world-- MUSIC.
Of course starting with the universal humble beginnings of shower
conciertos, she then took it upon herself to throw herself at
nice, unsuspecting bar owners, street corners and innocent bystanders...
breaking into song at any second and scaring the bejesus out of
them without the cursory polite warnings. This went on without
notice until one day, out of appreciation for her raw talent (or
a secret suicidal urge) a kind soul got her to make a public and
ostentatious appearance at what was to become a historical landmark
in the Cebuano music scene. This gig was called Intimate Acoustics
back in 1999 and a few hapless talented musicians were coerced
into being her rhythm section. Not surprisingly, mostly due to
her musical genius, Cattski got a little bit of airtime and over
some time, radioheads were either struck by the haunting quality
of her voice, or got some very disturbing flashbacks of a very
familiar voice that used to egg them on from a street corner,
and so she gained a respectable popularity. What followed was
a string of gigs, the most notable of which was Siren Souls 1
at Padi's Point. Among those who were drawn to her as a singer
and a generally beguiling personality, some brave innocents approached
her around the end of January 2000. Brian of White Satin, Anne
of So Called 6th Sense Jam of Black Coffee Sundae timidly invited
her to jam with them and what resulted was a not so smooth intertwining
(actually a cacophonous) of elements of what we may ambitiously
call music. Undaunted by their first jam session, they were later
joined by Junnell-- a man with a talent for hitting things with
sticks-- of Hard Candy.
The only thing left
now was to pick a name. Without much debate they all settled on
Cattski... familiar, comfortable yet vain. (Anne figured she'd
convince them later to rename their band Anne). What followed
was the launching of the band in an event called Siren Souls in
Padi’s Point and from then on a string of gigs.
Over time they came to understand each others' moods and learned
to take it out on their instruments instead, rather than get into
physical blows. With irrepressible gusto, they threw themselves
into rehearsals until it paid off with numerous shows and appearances.
And still they insisted on sticking with the name Cattski (by
this time Anne had resigned herself to the fact that they will
forever be saddled with such a silly name).
At present, these people are neither dead nor missing. In fact,
Cattski is still challenging the Cebuano people into finding fault
in their melodious melding, one which is arguably getting close
to being near flawless. And that's what makes them obtrusively
conspicuous, yet charmingly CATTSKI.
