CHAPTER 9

Todd opened the door and slipped in quietly, it was late and the whole place was asleep. He walked through the foyer and into the ornate living room of Dorian’s mansion turning on a lamp by the sofa and heading toward the drink cart behind it. Picking up a bottle of scotch, he started to pour himself a whiskey before the pain in his stomach reminded him of what Tea had said, about taking care of himself for his children’s sake. Rolling his eyes he put the bottle down reluctantly and poured himself a glass of water and reaching into his pocket removed the bottle of little, purple pills that Larry Wolek had prescribed. Taking a couple in his hand he swallowed them quickly and gulped the glass of water down.

As he put the glass down he knocked something over on the side of the drink cart, a black handbag, sending all its contents rattling across the shiny, wood floor. Recognizing it as Blair’s he kicked it across the floor and laughed childishly before walking over and picking it up. Stooping down to pick up its contents he began throwing them back into the bag willy-nilly, lipstick, sunglasses, wallet. Placing it back on the table he noticed an item had slipped under the coffee table and bending down to pick it up he saw it was a black leather planner with her initials embossed on the top. It must have been old because it still had her initials as B.B.--Blair Buchanan.

Todd sat on the velvet sofa and began leafing through it and turning it to the first page noted it was a three-year planner with her old name, address and phone number at the top. It was filled with appointments and engagements from the last few years, but what caught his eye was that every once in a while he’d come across an entry that had a series of Ps, followed closely by another entry with a series of OVs. Every month there were five consecutive days marked with P and about five days later three consecutive days with OV. Some of the OV marked days had an M encircled with stars.

Todd sat back for a minute looking up at the ceiling when suddenly something occurred to him. Rifling through the pages he finally landed on the one he was looking for and staring at the page for a long time he eventually slipped the planner into his pocket and hurried upstairs.

He strolled into Starr’s room quietly and watched her sleep for a moment before kissing her lightly and leaving the room. His son’s nursery was right next to Blair’s room and as he entered he noticed that Blair was not in her bed, in fact her bed hadn’t been slept in. Looking at his beautiful son it was hard to believe he was the product of so much deception, a pawn in their vicious power game, right from the beginning.

“I’ll make it up to you,” whispered Todd as he stroked his cheek softly, “I promise.”

Looking into Blair’s room once more he assumed she was out. Feeling completely drained after seeing Tea he was rather relieved that Blair wasn’t around, not having the energy for one of their nightly confrontations. As he walked into his room and turned on the light, he saw Blair in his bed. She was on top of the covers wearing a sheer light blue nightgown that revealed her body completely.

The light awakened her and she smiled up at him, stretching like a cat and striking a seductive pose across the pillow. A cat in heat.

“You’re finally here. I called the hospital and they said you’d left. I thought I’d welcome you home.”

Todd just stood in the middle of the room watching her quietly.

Finally Blair got off the bed and walked over to him and placing her hand on his chest began to stroke it seductively.

“You know, Todd, I was really worried about you.”

“Were you?”

“Of course I was. I’m your wife. And I think it’s time we stopped playing these silly games and began acting like husband and wife...after all, that is what we both want isn’t it?”

Her fingers traveled up to his face and caressed his cheek softly as she tried to catch his eye but he was staring at the wall behind her.

“What about your lies, Blair?”

“What about yours? I think we’ve both done our share of lying, Todd, but in the end...well...we’ll forget about it...that’s how it is with us. I think maybe it‘s time we used a different approach to settle our differences,” whispered Blair, smiling and rubbing her body against his.

“So...no more lies, Blair?” he whispered back.

“No, Todd...no more lies.”

Todd looked down at her and suddenly walked to the door, closed it and locked it. When he turned around Blair had a little victorious smile on her face, that smug, gloating look that he despised so much. He removed her planner from his pocket and her face became tense when she realized what it was.

“Where did you get that, Todd? That’s mine. Give it to me!” she said as she lunged forward to take it from him, but he held it up high, beyond her reach.

“No more lies, Blair? This planner fell out of your bag downstairs...very interesting reading. All filled with little Ps and little OVs and little stars. I get the Ps and OVs--periods and ovulations, right--but the letters surrounded by stars mystify me.”

Todd starts leafing through the planner.

“Here’s an M encircled in stars...and here’s another one....but what really caught my eye was this one here at the end of January 2000. Ah...yes...here it is. A big, ole T surrounded by stars right next to a big, ole OV. What’s that all about, Blair?”

Blair glared at him and shook her head.

“I don’t know what you’re making such a big deal about, Todd. That’s just women’s stuff. You wouldn’t understand.”

“Try me...I’m actually pretty smart, Blair.”

Blair was silent.

“Here’s my theory. I figure the M stands for Max...am I right? As I recall at that time you were trying to have a kid with your true love! And I’m assuming the T stands for Todd...moronic, simple, imbecilic, vacuous, half-witted, pathetic, stupid, dumb TODD!”

He threw the book at her viciously and she jumped back, startled by his sudden anger. As he began walking toward her menacingly she began to back away from him until she fell backwards on the bed. He loomed above her, looking down at her terrified face and nearly naked body with an ugly sneer.

“So, Blair, still wanna fuck? Is it ovulation time again?” he said moving toward her with ugly, rapacious intent.

Blair jumped up quickly and ran for the door but in two steps he was right there beside her and she cowered in fear against the doorframe, uncertain of what he would do next in his dark, quiet rage.

“Don’t worry, Blair, I don’t want to touch you! I don’t want to go anywhere near that ...thing,” he said, pointing at her crotch in disgust, “but you and I are going to have some ground rules in this sick joke of a marriage. First of all, you don’t come near me or my room. No more of your little seduction scenes...they nauseate me and make you look even more pathetic than you are. We don’t fight in front of our kids...never! We’ll go out as a family when we have to, for holidays, school functions, whatever...but in private...you’re nothing to me. Is that understood?”

Blair stood up, her backbone firmly back in place, her face hard and twisted with anger.

“You expect me to live like this? Well, I won’t! I’m not a eunuch, like you! I’m a woman, Todd...and I have needs!”

Todd laughed out loud.

“Oh...is that what you’re worried about Blair? Not your children....but your libido? It figures! Don’t worry, Blair, you can go out and fuck whoever you want, whenever you want...I don’t care. All I ask is that you be discreet...don’t humiliate me or my children.”

Blair’s eyes filled with tears of frustration and rage.

“You’re sick! You’re so disgusting...you love to humiliate me, don’t you?”

“It’s so easy...there’s so much to work with. Now, do we have a deal?”

“No! I’m taking those kids and I’m leaving in the morning...I won’t live like this!”

Todd came closer to her, his ire dripping like acid with his every word.

“I’ll see you dead before you take my kids,” he hissed.

They looked at each other with complete loathing before Blair finally turned and unlocked the door.

“Good night, darling,” said Todd sarcastically before shutting the door in her face.

Todd stood there for a moment and reaching down to his stomach suddenly noticed that the pain in his belly had subsided and it made him smile.

Picking up the planner from the floor he began looking through it again. There was one entry that bothered him more than Blair’s appointment to get pregnant by him. It was about a month later from when he and Blair had conceived their son, there were no letters marking the menstrual cycle for that month but there was a small notation on one of the days that would fit into her ovulation period. Blair had written...SEDUCE MAX!

to be continued...
