CHAPTER 9 |
Todd moves a little closer to Tea. He continues to watch her face for any sign that she's repulsed by his presence, which he doesn't find. He continues moving closer until he enters her personal space. One arm goes around her body and pulls her close to him while his other hand reaches up and gently touches her cheek.
As he leans in for a kiss, he whispers her name.]
Todd: Delgado...
***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****
[Tea, realizes that Todd is about to kiss her and tries to pull away but he won't let go.]
Tea: Don't, Todd.
Todd: You don't want me to?
[A kiss from Todd is precisely what Tea wants in this moment but she knows that it would be a mistake. She doesn't want his pity right now.]
Todd: Do you want this, Tea?
Tea: It would be a mistake.
Todd: Why?
Tea: You would end up regretting it.
Todd: I don't care.
[Todd moves in for a kiss again. This time, Tea can't bring herself to stop it. She allows it to happen. She allows herself to get lost in it.
The hand that was on her cheek, moves to the back of her head. The hand on her back moves lower. Tea's hands begin to unbutton his shirt.
Todd pulls away from their kiss and speaks.]
Todd: Let's go into the bedroom.
Tea: No.
Todd: No? You're taking off my clothes, Delgado. We both know what that means.
Tea: It means nothing.
[Tea finally pulls out of his embrace and moves several steps away from him. Todd follows her. He places his hands on her waist as his body presses her against the wall.]
Todd: Tell me you don't want this right now.
[Todd kisses her again. Tea gives in to the kiss as his hands caresses her body. After several minutes of kissing passionately, Tea finally puts an end to their kissing and moves away from him again.]
Todd: Isn't this why you wanted me to come here tonight?
Tea: No.
Todd: Are you doing this to get back at me?
Tea: I thought we should end our relationship on a better note than we did before.
Todd: Well, the notes we were just playing together seemed pretty good to me. Why are you stopping?
Tea: I'm not doing this, Todd. I won't be your mistress.
Todd: My mistress? We're married, Delgado, remember? How the hell can you be my mistress if we're married?
Tea: You don't want anyone to know about our marriage. Or, did you forget that part? You think you can buy me a house to live in and you can come and go as you please. We'll have a sexual relationship when you're in the mood and you'll disappear for months without a word to me when you're not. That doesn't work for me, Todd. Go back to whatever bimbo you have now who's willing to accept that kind of treatment because it isn't me.
Todd: What is with your obsession with this idea you have that I'm keeping all of these women dangling in my life?
Tea: Aren't you? Haven't you been seeing different people since you walked out on me?
Todd: Oh, you know me. I've got hundreds of women just flinging themselves at my feet. It's hard to choose which ones will have the pleasure of my company each night. Sometimes there are eleven or twelve of them just lined up outside my bedroom door, waiting for their turn to be pleasured.
Tea: Get out, Todd.
Todd: Tea, what's wrong with you? I thought I was doing what you wanted. I thought you wanted me to kiss you. I thought you wanted me to spend the night with you. Now you want me to get out? I don't understand you.
Tea: I won't let you use me again. I will not allow you to use me and toss me away ever again.
Todd: I didn't do that, Tea.
Tea: You walked out on me after we had sex. Was it really that horrible?
Todd: No.
Tea: Go away, Todd. Don't come back ever again.
[Tea turns and walks toward her bedroom.]
Todd: It was that good.
[Tea stops and turns toward him, not believing what he just said.]
Tea: What?
Todd: It was good...damn good. It was unbelievable.
Tea: Why did you leave?
Todd: It was too much.
[Todd walks toward her until he's close enough to touch her.]
Todd: It wasn't because of what we did, not entirely. It was all just too much. I put you through hell and you stuck with me. You wouldn't give up on me. You wouldn't stop trying. And, something happened.
Tea: What?
Todd: I don't know. It was like this storm cloud that had been hovering over me for so long just seemed to go away for a few days. Suddenly everything was so clear. So, I ask you to marry me, you say okay, we take off and do it, we come back, we...
Tea: We made love.
[Todd hesitantly reaches his hand out and touches Tea's face. He's relieved when she doesn't pull away from his touch.]
Todd: We made love. You said so much stuff to me.
Tea: You said a lot to me, too.
Todd: Yeah, but after...when you fell asleep...that damn cloud came back. Everything got dark again. I knew that if I stayed that's all I could give you. All I have is darkness and you want all this light. You should have it. You deserve it. I'm just darkness, Delgado. That's all I am.
[Tea places her hand over his on her cheek.]
Tea: That's not true. You're more than darkness, Todd.
Todd: No. That's all I am. That's all I could ever give you. You've spent your whole life trying to get out of the darkness. All I can do for you is drag you further into it.
Tea: But, it's not dark when I'm with you. Don't you understand that?
Todd: No. I don't understand that or anything else about this. I don't understand what you see when you look at me. I don't understand why you think you see something okay.
Tea: I do, Todd. I see so much that's more than okay.
Todd: You're just saying that. You're just imagining that.
Tea: I'm not imagining this...
[Tea quickly places her arms around his neck and kisses him. He kisses her back.]
