REACHING OUT

BY TIMA

CHAPTER

22

PREVIOUSLY:
Tea: Don't promise me things that you'll never deliver on. I've had enough broken promises already.

Todd: I promise that I'll love you. I'll never break that promise. I haven't so far. I never stopped loving you. You never stopped loving me. Stop pretending that you can permanently give up on us. I know that you can't. We're stuck. We love each other. It sucks, but that's the truth. We love each other.

chapter 22:

[There is silence again as Tea watches the sunrise and Todd watches her.

When Tea finally looks at him again, she finds him staring at her with such intensity, she has to look away.]

Tea: We should probably leave.

[Todd brings his hand to the side of her face and lightly moves the tip of one of his fingers down her skin from her cheek to her neck. His hand spans out and lightly caresses her neck, dipping slightly under the shirt she's wearing. He leans his face closer to hers and whispers to her.]

Todd: You're so beautiful.

Tea: I'm a mess. I look...

[Todd's hand moves to the side of her chin and turns her face towards him.]

Todd: You're beautiful.

[Tea shivers in anticipation. His mouth is tantalizingly close to hers. She knows that he plans to kiss her. She wants it and, at the same time, doesn't want it.

For more than a minute, he keeps their mouths electrifyingly close, but doesn't kiss her.]

Todd: What do you want, Tea?

[Tea opens her mouth, but doesn't say anything. She wants him to kiss her, to love her, to hold her, to never stop. She also wants him to go away and stop torturing her with feelings that are too painful right now.

Todd finally moves his face the slight amount needed for contact. He doesn't kiss her, though. Instead, he nuzzles his face against hers. They both close their eyes. For a moment, each allows the other to soothe their internal agony.

Tea can feel tears coming to her eyes. She tries to stop it. She tries to will away the feelings that he's bringing out in her. She tries to build up enough anger inside herself so she can push him away and stop what he's doing to her with his presence. She can't do it, though. She can't stop herself from giving in to her need for him. She knows that she'll regret it later, but she allows herself what she's trying to convince herself will be the last time that she'll ever feel his arms around her, the last time she'll ever feel him physically loving her.

As Tea's body reclines, Todd follows with his own body.

Todd reads the unspoken invitation in her action and accepts that invitation. He begins by kissing her cheek but soon moves his lips to her neck.

He lavishes her with erotic temptation, exciting her. When he stops kissing her flesh and raises his head, looking at her for a moment, it's Tea who places her hand behind his head and pulls him to her, initiating a kiss that begins slow and tender but soon escalates into wild, passionate kissing that neither wants to ever stop.

Minutes later...

They're still kissing as Todd presses himself against her. His hand has migrated down her body. Neither has given any thought to the reality that they're in a public place. They're both too caught up in the physical sensations to think of anything but wanting more.

It isn't until Todd's hand moves down her stomach, wanting to go further, that Todd finally stops kissing her. As he speaks, his breathing is heavy, his passion for her evident. Tea's passion for him is evident, too, as she tries to return his lips to hers.]

Todd: Can you feel down there?

[Tea stops trying to kiss him as she is forced to again face the reality of their current situation.

She takes a moment to catch her breath and organize her thoughts again.]

Todd: It's okay if you can't. We can do other things.

Tea: We need to leave.

Todd: Don't do it, Tea. Don't go back to shutting me out. I won't let you.

[Tea sits up. Todd sits up next to her.]

Tea: I want you to take me back.

Todd: We didn't do anything wrong.

Tea: I need...

Todd: You need me.

Tea: I don't need this. I don't want this.

Todd: I make you feel. You've always hated that. But, you need it, Tea. You need me. Don't push me away. I can help you.

Tea (angrily): I don't want your help. I don't want your pity. Go back to your family. Stop using me as an excuse to run away from what you feel for them. Stop pretending that you feel anything but pity for me.

Todd: I don't give a damn if you can walk, or not. I don't care if you ever walk again. If you can't feel it down there, I'll turn you on other ways. You can't pretend that you don't get turned on anymore, not after what we just shared.

Tea: We didn't share anything. It didn't mean anything. We're just two lonely people taking what we can get from whomever we can get it from. That's all.

Todd: What about how much we love each other?

Tea: It isn't love. It has never been love.

Todd: That's not true. I love you.

Tea: You have never loved me. You don't know how to love.

Todd: You can show me.

Tea: It's too late.

Todd: As long as we're both alive, it will never be too late.

Tea: It's too late.

Todd: You're not dying. I won't let you.

Tea: You don't get to control my life. Take me back to the van right now or I'll do it myself.

Todd: Don't be stupid.

[With some effort, Tea pulls away from him and turns onto her stomach, facing the direction of the van, and tries to use her upper body to pull herself forward.]

Todd: Why are you so damn stubborn?

[Tea stops her efforts and looks back at him.]

Tea: Me? You're the jackass who brought me out here without my wheelchair and now won't help me get back to it.

Todd: Well, you're the jillass who would rather die than admit that you still give a damn about me.

Tea: Jillass?

[Tea turns her head to keep him from seeing her smile. Todd knows that she's smiling, anyway. It makes him feel good, knowing that he can still make her smile, even when she's angry at him.

Todd moves his body until he's lying on his stomach next to her. He places his hand on her back and slowly caresses her. Tea folds her arms in front of her and rests her head on them as she begins to cry. She doesn't even know why she's crying. She just knows that, for some reason, she can't control her emotions in this moment.

Todd doesn't know what to do. He knows that she's hurting, but he doesn't know what he can do to stop it. He knows that his being near her is adding to her pain, the same way being near her adds to his pain. But, he also knows that being near her eases his pain. It makes no sense to him how she can both add to, and soothe, his pain, but she does. He accepts that he'd rather be in the agony he's in when he's with her, feeling all of the emotions that she brings out in him, rather than being stuck in the constant state of numbness that he always seems to be in when they're apart. Now, he just needs to figure out how to convince Tea to accept the agony of the love he wants so desperately to shower her with.]

to be continued...
