FALLING UPON CUPID'S KINDNESS

BY TIMA

CHAPTER

1

chapter 1:

[Tea Delgado is slowly strolling down a crowded street, window shopping. At her side is her best friend, Rachel Gannon.]

Rachel: Girlfriend, that would look unbelievable on you.

Tea: It's too revealing.

Rachel: Is there such a thing?

Tea: There is when you don't have anyone in your life that you want to reveal that much to.

Rachel: You need to think positively. Maybe this man you have a date with tomorrow night will turn out to be the man of your dreams.

Tea: I doubt it.

Rachel: Your problem is that you're so busy dreaming about the wrong man, you're not giving anyone else a chance to show how right they are for you.

Tea: I am not. I've just had lousy luck with dating.

Rachel: How many first dates have you had in the last year?

Tea: Too many.

Rachel: That's because you reject every guy that tries to get close to you. You need to give someone more than a few hours to impress you.

Tea: If it's not there on the first date, it never will be.

Rachel: Was it there with Todd, the first time you met him?

Tea: This isn't about Todd.

Rachel: I think it is.

Tea: Well, you're wrong. That relationship was over a long time ago.

Rachel: Is that why you won't step foot in Llanview again?

Tea: This is your last day here. Do you really want to spend it talking about Todd Manning.

Rachel: No, but you do.

Tea: I don't. My best friend is going back to Chicago tomorrow. I want to spend the rest of the day doing something more interesting than talking about men.

Rachel: What's more interesting than that?

Tea: We'll find something.

[Tea and Rachel continue down the street. Within two blocks, Tea gasps and stops walking.]

Rachel: What's wrong?

Tea: I just saw Todd.

Rachel: Another daydream?

Tea: I swear, I just saw him.

Rachel: Where?

[Tea points toward the crowd that she's certain she just saw Todd disappear into.]

Tea: Over there.

Rachel: I don't see him.

Tea: I swear, he was there.

Rachel: That settles it, you need a man.

Tea: I did not imagine it. I know I saw Todd.

Rachel: If you really want to see him so badly, go back to Llanview. You know he's living there again.

Tea: That's not what I want.

Rachel: This is the third time during my visit you have imagined that you saw Todd Manning. I'd say, that's definitely what you want.

Tea: I'm over him.

Rachel: If that's the case, why do you see him everywhere you go?

Tea: Maybe he's in New York.

Rachel: There's one way to find out. Call him.

Tea: I don't even remember his number.

Rachel: I doubt that.

Tea: Why are you trying to push me toward Todd all of a sudden? You never liked him before.

Rachel: I still don't. I'm thrilled that he's out of your life. The problem is that you're not thrilled. I think the next time you think you see him, you should finally find out if it really is him.

Tea: What if it isn't?

Rachel: I thought you were so certain it was.

Tea: I am, but what if it turns out to be someone who looks exactly like him, but isn't really him?

Rachel: If that happens, ask if he's in a relationship, or if he's gay. If he's not, ask him out.

Tea: After my date tomorrow night, I'm giving up on men.

Rachel: Until your next Todd sighting.

Tea: Stop it.

Rachel: I just think you should stop pining away for him. If you think he's all that, go back to Llanview wearing your sexiest dress and see if he's still interested. Otherwise, move on with your life and give another guy a chance to steal your heart.

Tea: My heart's not up for grabs.

Rachel: Maybe it should be.

Tea: Maybe we should talk about your love life for a while.

Rachel: Do you know anyone you could fix me up with? Because, I would love an excuse to come back to New York on a regular basis.

Tea: As a matter of fact...

Rachel: Let me guess, you want to pawn your date for tomorrow night off on me.

Tea: I think you'd get along great.

Rachel: Too bad I won't be here tomorrow night.

Tea: You could stay longer. I've loved having you.

Rachel: It's been great rooming with you again, but I do need to get back to Chicago. And, you need to give this new guy a chance.

Tea: I'll give him a chance...a chance to bore me, just like every other guy I've met recently.

Rachel: Not all men can be Todd Manning...thankfully.

Tea: Unfortunately.

Rachel: Call him.

Tea: It's over.

Rachel: It doesn't look that way to me.

Tea: He's moved on. I won't interfere with that.

Rachel: Maybe he's just as miserable as you are.

Tea: I'm not miserable. I have a great job. I have a great family. I have great friends. Who needs men?

Rachel: We do...at least for a few hours, several times a week.

Tea: What we need right now is to eat.

Rachel: You're sublimating.

Tea: I feel like sublimating with something orgasmically sinful.

Rachel: You've decided to go back to Llanview, after all?

[Tea rolls her eyes as she and Rachel continue down the street, towards Tea's favorite restaurant.]

to be continued...
