FALLING UPON CUPID'S KINDNESS

CHAPTER

2

chapter 2:

[The next evening...

Tea is sitting in a crowded restaurant, waiting for her date to arrive. She insisted that they meet at the restaurant, certain that the evening would be another dating disaster for her, and wanting it to end as soon as possible.

As Tea waits, without anticipation, for her dining companion's arrival, she looks around the room. To her surprise, she again spots someone who looks exactly like Todd, at least from the angle, and distance, she's looking at him from.

Tea considers taking Rachel's advice from the previous day and approaching this man, to find out for certain if it is Todd, or if it's just her mind playing tricks on her, convincing her that anyone with a similar look is her ex-husband.

Ultimately, Tea decides to find out if it is him, but chooses not to do it face to face. If it is truly Todd, he may not want to see her and she doesn't want to deal with the rejection directly.

Minutes later...

The man is reading a newspaper when a waitress approaches the table.]

Waitress: Excuse me, sir.

Man: You're excused. Go away.

Waitress: A young lady at another table asked me to give you this.

[The waitress places a slip of paper on the table.]

Man: Tell her that she's right. I am Brad Pitt. But, I don't pick up strange chicks and I don't sign autographs.

[The waitress retrieves the note and returns to Tea's table.]

Waitress: He wasn't interested.

Tea: Did he read my note?

Waitress: No. It's too bad, though. He's no Brad Pitt, that's for certain, but he isn't bad to look at. You would have made a cute couple.

[The waitress leaves the table. Tea considers approaching the man's table herself, but decides against it.

Soon, Tea's date arrives. It's a worse date than usual, since Tea spends all of it barely paying attention to her date while she stares behind him at the person who, as Tea has observed, eats exactly like Todd does.

Finally, the man at the other table rises, finished with his meal.

Tea's heart beats faster at the possibility that she may come face to face with her ex-husband again. She tries to prepare herself for the disappointment that may come in a few seconds, as the man begins walking in her direction as he exits the restaurant.

As the man approaches, he glances directly at her, sharing eye contact with her.

Their eyes continue their connection as he continues to walk confidently toward her. Their gaze is only broken when the man reaches her table and continues passed it, as he quickly leaves the restaurant.

Tea's heart is broken. Despite her determination not to, she had hoped for a reunion with her ex-husband tonight. She wasn't envisioning him rushing toward her with his arms opened, but she is disappointed that instead of the awkward reunion she was expecting, she instead only had a few seconds of eye contact with a fellow diner as he casually walked away.

She had been hoping for a look of recognition, perhaps even of regret, or longing, from those eyes she has known so well in the past. Instead her fellow diner looked at her the same way he would any stranger.

Tea holds back the tears her heart wants to shed, not wanting her date to know how she's feeling right now.

Within minutes, Tea has dispensed with her date and exits the restaurant alone.

She notices a limousine parked in front of the restaurant and is walking passed it when the door suddenly opens and a gruff voice tells her to get in.]

to be continued...
