CHAPTER-4
THE HOGWARTS EXPRESS
Madison was awoken by a knock on the door. It was Tom.
“The car will be here in an hour Miss Othera,” he said
Madison opened her eyes and groaned. She turned around and fell hard to the floor. She didn’t remember where she was at first.
“I’ll be right down” she called realizing.
She got up with a smile on her face and went straight to look out the window.
“Samson, isn’t this great” she called to her cat, that was still asleep in his basket.
Madison showered, dressed and tried to run a comb through her hair. When she was little she remembered having curly hair but it had suddenly just become very frizzy. Then, something hit her, making her feel like going back to San Francisco.
What if this isn’t real, she thought. What if they got the wrong person? I mean, sure strange things have happened but…She trailed off.
She looked at herself in the mirror. Frizzy brown hair, cinnamon colored eyes, tall, thin, but not very pretty, she thought. What’s so special about me? I’m just a regular person…. Aren’t I? She sighed.
She went down stairs, where Tom had her breakfast ready. She watched as other people began to come in to have breakfast as well. Funny people, she thought. She assumed they were all witches and wizards because of the way they were dressed.
At exactly nine, o’clock a car arrived. Tom and the driver put her luggage in the trunk of the car. They left as soon as Madison was able to find Samson, who was hiding under a table frightened from all the people and the strange place. “You scaredy cat”
When they finally arrived to the station, the driver got her a trolley and put her luggage on it.
“Do you have your ticket?” he asked
“Yes,” she said taking it out of her back pocket.
“Follow me!”
They walked over to platform nine and ten. Madison looked around for platform nine and three-quarters but didn’t see anything.
“Now I’ll go first. Then just do as I do and follow.”
She stood there, watched as the driver pushed the trolley, reached the barrier between platforms nine and ten, and then suddenly disappear. Madison gasped. She blinked and rubbed her eyes. Where did he go? She thought.
“Well, are you just going to stand there or go through?” Madison jumped and turned to see a tall, blue eyed girl with long black hair down to her waist. She reminded her of the kind of girls that made fun of her in her old school.
“Oh…. Um, sorry”
Madison turned around, took a deep breath and walked toward the barrier, fearing that she would crash and fall.
When she finally got the nerve to open her eyes, she saw a scarlet steam engine. She looked around and saw the driver.
“Your luggage is in this compartment Miss Othera”
“Thank You”
“Enjoy your trip,” he said with a smile, and with that, one moment he was there, the next he was gone.
Madison climbed on board and sat down next to a window. She let Samson out of his basket and looked at all the people as she stroked him. A little while later the compartment door flew open. A girl with red shoulder length hair about Madison’s age came in.
“Is this seat taken?
“No” Madison nodded
The girl brought in her luggage then started on her trunk. She pushed and pulled but couldn’t manage to get it inside.
“Let me help” Madison offered.
They carried it into the compartment and put it into a corner.
“Thanks,” the girl said. “I’m Scarlet”
“Your welcome, my name’s Madison,” and they shook hands.
A while later the train began to move. Both girls looked outside at all the people. Scarlet waved goodbye to her grandmother, a chubby old woman, and a little girl about five years old with red hair.
The ride was long and comfortable. Madison and Scarlet talked most of the way. She found out that Scarlet was in Gryffindor. While at the Leaky Cauldron, Madison had received some information, so atleast she knew what Scarlet was talking about. She wasn’t expecting anything to arrive, so she was startled when an owl flew in just as she was getting ready. Madison thought that she’d liked to be in Gryffindor all though Ravenclaw sounded good to.
“Hey, you want to meet some of my friends?”
“Sure,” Madison replied
This was Scarlet’s second year so she knew some people.
They stepped outside and walked toward another compartment. Scarlet opened the door without knocking.
“Hey guys,” she yelled.
The people inside seemed startled for a moment.
‘Hey Scarlet,” they all chorused.
“How you’ve been” “How was your summer” They all asked at the same time.
“So many questions so little time” Scarlet replied.
Madison was still outside. She hadn’t even looked in.
“I’d like for you to meet someone.” She pulled Madison by her shirt.
Madison felt a little nervous. People always judged her just by looking at her.
“Come in,” Scarlet said.
She stepped inside and so did Madison, pulling nervously on her crystal hanging around her neck.
“Hi,” they all said at once.
“Hi,” she replied.
There were two guys and a girl. The girl had brown curly hair and was holding what looked like a picture album. One of the boys had his hand around her. He had blond hair and Madison thought he looked like a football player. The other boy was sitting in front of them. He was the total opposite of the first boy. He was thin, had black hair and blue eyes.
“Madison, this is Sherry, David and Jonathan. Everyone, this is Madison.” Scarlet said with a smile.
Sherry and David said hi and waved. Jonathan, the black-haired boy, stood up and shook Madison’s hand.
“Nice to meet you”
Madison and Scarlet stayed a while. She found out that Sherry and David were a couple. They were in their fourth year and in Ravenclaw. Jonathan was in his second year and in Gryffindor.
“Are you new to Hogwarts?” Jonathan asked
“Yes,” she replied.
The sky was dark when they started to slow. By now, Madison and Scarlet were in their own compartment. The train stopped and they headed for the door.
