1971 Chevy Nova

I bought it in 1998 for $500 with 142,000 miles on it. The original engine was a 245 hp 2 barrel 350 that got 12-14 mpg city and 17-18 mpg highway.
It has about 196,000 miles as of July 2006.
I painted it in September 2000 so the California Highway Patrol would leave me alone.
350 ci engine replaced at 164,855 miles (GM Goodwrench LM1 225hp), and got about 13-15 mpg city and 17-20 mpg highway
MSD ignition, quadrajet carb, aluminum intake manifold
original TH350 transmission

The engine was removed in February 2003 and put in the truck, because I needed my truck more than the Nova.
In April 2004 with 179,260 miles on vehicle I rebuilt a mostly stock 350 bored .040 over, with about 8:1 compression ratio and a Comp Cams HE252 camshaft. I also had the TH350 transmission rebuilt. It got about 14 mpg city and 17-18 mpg highway as of April 2005

In August 2004 I put in a larger 23" core radiator from a 74 Nova, details here.
The 76 cc heads were replaced with 64 cc swirl port heads from ebay, around 187,000 miles in April 2005. This raised the CR to 8.9:1. In early 2006 I also added dual exhaust and a higher flow water pump. By computer simulation the engine has around 250 hp @ 4000 rpm and 355 ft-lbs @ 3000 rpm, but the car has not been on a real dyno.

Gas mileage in early 2006 was 14-16 mpg city and 16-20 mpg highway.

68-71 Nova radiator upgrade to 23" core.
