The
Holistic Protocol
4 External - 4
Internal
The Traditional Methods of Chinese Acupuncture, of which you are already skilled, dictate that you should utilize the four methods of diagnosis with all patients.
And when you encounter peculiar manifestations in a patient that demonstrate Shen Disturbance, Jing Deficiency, or Qi Disorders due to Shen/Jing disharmony, you may wish to apply the Holistic Protocol mentioned in Scroll One, which is restated here in order to refresh your memory :
"It is recommended to always use Du 20 at the Crown in order to give a spiritual influence to the whole process ("Treat the Spirit first!").
"Then one point is inserted on each extremity (bilaterally) to be determined by the physical diagnosis. For example, if the patient is emotionally depressed with a headache, Liver 3 and L.I. 4 would be appropriate. Other points, chosen specifically for medical symptoms, can be substituted at this stage. But don't get carried away - try to hold the total number to 8 needles (including those given below).
"Next, we scan the Ren channel, either by etheric vision or by the sensation in the palm of the hand, searching for the imbalanced areas in the major centers (nodes or acupuncture points). Usually, one distressed key point is found in the abdomen, the epigastric area (the "Soma-Zero" point of Spiritual Acupuncture), and the chest."
These "distressed key points" are, in fact, our energetically-located Ren 6, Ren 12, and Ren 19.
Now then, it may be that you understand everything that has been presented in these scrolls, yet you are having difficulty in "putting it all together."
It has been determined through direct experience with licensed practitioners that what is wanted is an actual point prescription. Therefore, this scroll will provide a specific, generic, holistic protocol involving six acupoints. The points may, of course, be modified according to your use of the techniques mentioned earlier, or by the application of your inestimable intuition.
The points are :
. . . 1. Du 20
. . . . . . 2. Liv 3 (bilateral)
. . . . . . . . . 3. L.I. 4 (bilateral)
. . . . . . . . . . . . 4. Ren 6
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5. Ren 19
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6. Ren 12 (Soma-Zero)
( The order given above is the correct order of Insertion )

We will now examine each of the points as sequenced in the Holistic Protocol .
Ideally, the Patient will be lying in a supine position . . .

Treat
the Spirit First !
Governing
Vessel (Du) 20
Governing Vessel 20 (Du 20) Bai Hui, the "Hundred Meetings"
is said to:"Calm the Spirit" and "Clear the Senses."
Du 20, the most superior acupoint, is not only the governing point of the Crown Chakra (influencing the Pineal gland), but is also the intersection point of the cephalic surface of the body and the superior aspect of the hara line.
Insert Du 20 horizontally, posteriorly directed.

The Four Gateways to Emotional Balance
Liver 3, Large Intestine 4
Liver 3 (Liv 3) Tai Chong, the "Supreme Surge"
&
Large Intestine 4 (LI 4) He Gu, the "Union Valley"
are called theFour Gates
when used simultaneously and bilaterally. The Four Gates are a well-known point combination used by Acupuncturists everywhere in order to :
"Harmonize the flow of Emotional Energy."
Insert Liv 3 perpendicularly bilaterally.
Then insert LI 4 perpendicularly bilaterally.
Conception
Vessel 6 (Ren
6) Qi
Hai, the "Sea of Qi" is the Jing Access Point
&
Conception
Vessel 19 (Ren
19) Zi
Gong, the "Purple Palace" is the Shen Access Point
Locate the precise energetic center of (first) Ren 6, and (second) Ren 19 :

Insert Ren 6 perpendicularly.
Then insert Ren 19 horizontally, directed inferiorly.

Soma Zero Qi Consolidation
Conception Vessel (Ren) 12
C.V. 12 (Ren 12) Zhong Wan, the "Central Channel" is the Qi Access Point
Locate the precise energetic center of Ren 12 :
Insert Ren 12 perpendicularly.
The effect of insertion into this energetically-located Soma-Zero point is to synchronize and harmonize the actions of all the other points. That's why it is inserted last in the sequence. It will have this same effect on any treatment prescription - It is the Gan Cao (Licorice Root) of acupuncture points.
Retain the Needles for 15 minutes
and withdraw them in reverse order from which they were inserted .
Insert Du 20 horizontally, posteriorly directed.
Insert Liv 3 perpendicularly bilaterally.
Then insert LI 4 perpendicularly bilaterally.
.Energetically locate Ren 6 and insert perpendicularly.
Energetically locate Ren 19 and insert horizontally, directed inferiorly.
Energetically locate Ren 12 and insert perpendicularly.
Retain the Needles for 15 minutes
and withdraw them in reverse order from which they were inserted .
