Dr. Domingo Belarmino Ticzon
Biography August 4, 1904 - July 8, 1970
Almost 36yrs after our father's death on July 8, 1970, we had decided to write his biography. We quickly realized that we could not clearly and easily recall his early life without going back to the beginning-how he became the man he was that first day he was born into the lives of our grandparents Don Cristeto Emralino Ticzon and Doņa Miguela Alcos Belarmino on August 4, 1904, in San Pablo City, province of Laguna, Philippines. Spouses Teto and Igue as my grandparents were fondly called had seven children: Carmen (married to Judge Buenaventura Fule); Paz (married to Pedro Eleosida); Laura (married to Judge Serviliano Platon); Maria (married to Jose Estrellado); Domingo (married to Joaquina Rosales); Zacarias (married to Consorcia Alcantara) and Juan (married to Flora Fernandez).
At an early age of 6, Mingoy, and his two brothers Caring and Juaning were sent to study elementary and high school at the Letran College in Manila. They stayed as boarders in the school dormitory run by the Dominican priests. For their college education they enrolled at the University of Santo Thomas where my father became Doctor of Medicine, Zacarias a Lawyer and Juan an Engineer. In 1925 at age 21 he passed the Medical Board Examination as number two, he missed only by a digit to the first placer.
Sometime in 1929, as a young doctor he was assigned to work as Director at the Jolo General Hospital. A friend invited him to attend a party in honor of the nurses who passed the board exam. He was introduced to one of the newly-passed nurses, a mestiza-looking lass by the name of Joaquina Atienza Rosales (Nany), eldest daugther of Don Eleuterio Atega Rosales and Doņa Natalia Demafilis Atienza, a prominent family of Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte. He was immediately smitten and whirlwind courtship ensued; they got married November 9, 1930.

Their happy union produced eight children: Josefina Luisa (Pining) married to Lope Piamonte; Maria Erlinda (Erling) married to Lavio Benitez; Maria Auxiliadora Cristeta (Tita); Domingo (Papo) married to Sheila Gonzales; Maria Miguela Joaquina (Leleng) married to Manuel Santiago; Maria Natalia (Nellie); Marie Evangeline (Jill); and Mary Mediatrix (Grace) married to Manuel Fernandez.

He served as a Captain, Medical Corps, USAR, 0 298 572. During World War II and after the war he worked as a surgeon in the United States Military Hospital in Manila. He got his Honorable Discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States of America on the 1st. Day of April 1953. A certificate was awarded to him as a testimonial of Honest and Faithful Service, signed by E.J. Delaney, Major, Adjutant General's Corps.
When he returned to his hometown in San Pablo City, Laguna, he was appointed by his first cousin Atty. Zacarias Belarmino Sahagun (nephew of his mother), who was then the City Mayor 1924-1937, as First Director of the San Pablo General Hospital. His service was only terminated when the Japanese soldiers burned down the town including a portion of the hospital building during World War II. My mother vividly recalled that when they all run up to the mountains to hide from the Japanese soldiers Papa was being escorted up and down the highland by a courageous and one of the most feared guerilla named, Teofilo Estrellado, to keep him from harm anytime he would come down to provide medical assistance to his relatives, friends and to the people.

He then became Director of Medical Division of the Bureau of Customs, in Aduana, Manila, Philippines in 1953 until he retired in 1968. He was a fourth degree active member of Knights of Columbus, in which he was the Master of Ceremony with a title "Sir Knight." Beyond his love of tennis, he was an avid player of dominoes, table tennis (ping-pong) and bowling.
Socially, in the 1920's together with some townmates they organized a very exclusive club called SIGMA whose membership were from prominent families of San Pablo City, such as: Ticzon, Belarmino, Alcantara, Ambray, Bautista, Brion, Cabrera, Evangelista, Escudero, Estiva, Fule, Gesmundo, Gorostiza, Laurel, Marino, Paulino, Viray to name a few. Its first president was Judge Juan Paulino. The member's children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces revived this club. Todate we have no idea if this club still exists..

Sometime in 1959 when his elder children were starting to go to college he moved his family to live in Project 4, Quezon City. Papa was a very good husband and father. He loved nothing more than spending hours with us devoting more time in cooking authentic Spanish food and even doing the marketing himself. As children we were all obligated to be home at lunch and dinner time. He used to share with us anecdotes about his ancestors, and now with the help of the modern technology, I will be able to re-connect with my other relatives who may wish to broaden their own knowledge about their respective forefathers who had given us the name "TEK SON" or "TECSON" and now "TICZON."
NOTE: Atty. Zacarias B. Sahagun was the founder of San Pablo General Hospital and Laguna College, donated the Hospital to the people of San Pablo City.
