UPDATED!!! - Not Death Row news, but its related: After performing on the first three dates of the "Up In Smoke" tour, rapper Nate Dogg was arrested in Pomona, California on Saturday for allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and setting her mother's car on fire.

According to the Associated Press, a SWAT team arrested Nate Dogg, whose real name is Nathaniel Hale, at about 12:30 p.m. (PT) on Saturday at the rapper's home in Pomona. Hale has been accused of holding his former girlfriend, identified only as woman named Rhoda, at her home in Lakewood, California against her will, assaulting her, and then torching her mother's vehicle, which was believed to be parked on the premises.

After being taken into custody, Hale was subsequently charged and booked for making terrorist threats, arson, and domestic violence. The rapper, who had performed the night before at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, was released from a Los Angeles County Jail after posting $1 million bail.

Nate Dogg, a cousin of fellow rapper Snoop Dogg, was traveling and performing as part of the arena "Up In Smoke" tour, an outing that also features Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eminem, Xzibit, Tha Eastsidaz, Kurupt, and Warren G.

Question: What's up Kurupt, how is everything with you? How are you?

Kurupt: Everything is good man, everything is good. Ain't nothing like owning a label baby.

Question: That is one of the things I wanted to ask you about, you've now moved to Antra, what is that like?

Kurupt: Well, I'm part owner here, so nothing really goes down without it being discussed. It's a big thing man when you have control over your career.

Question: Talk about the new album, "Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha"

Kurupt: We got all the homies on it, it is basically a Dogg Pound album. So if you love Dogg Pound music go on and pick up the Streetz, it is Dogg Food 2 , you better believe that.

Question: What type of response is the album getting nation wide?

Kurupt: People love it. There is a lot of negativity that branched off of certain situations, but this new single everyone is feeling, branching away from the negativity. The streets adore it!

Question: From what I have heard, this is an album that is definitely getting respect across the country.

Kurupt: Yeah, yeah, they like that gangster music.

Question: Can you talk a little about the negativity that has been expressed lately with Death Row.

Kurupt: The negativity with Suge Knight didn't really effect me, because I left with a clean slate that didn't really effect Kurupt.

Question: Talk a little about the track "Calling Out Names"

Kurupt: That was the one that really kicked it off. People like controversy. All that is really squashed into the water now.

Question: What moved you to do the track "Calling Out Names"?

Kurupt: Personal reasons, I went through a lot of personal problems and involving it in the business which was not a wise thing to do, because, this is my only way to outlet and making money for my family. When you include personal problems into the way you make money and feed your family, it shall effect it. That's where the real problem was, not being able to be in the game without having to almost kill somebody or almost get killed ya know. That is pretty bad when you have kids man. I'm grown, I've got three kids and I'm getting older every day and they want to see their pop when they graduate. Them people got children and family too and they want to see them successful in doing things and I don't want to take people away from their family and I don't want to be taken away from mine. That's the key to the game.

Question: You've kind of touched on growing up, discuss your evolution lyrically.

Kurupt: It just changed with my growth, the older I got my topics changed. As you get older you start talking about different things and your raps will start coming out the same as what you speak about.

What are you trying to do next after this album is finished?

Kurupt: I'm going to drop one more album and then I'm going to get into the film game. Not as far as acting, but ownership of what is distributed. I already opened my film distribution company, but I'm not going to start until after I'm finished with my next album.

Question: What types of films are you looking for?
All kinds, comedies, dramas, anything that you can name from the film world. I'm not going to be directing and not too much starring in them, but I'm going to be putting them out.

Question: We talked about future plans, let's talk about how you actually got started rapping.

Kurupt: I ran into Snoop , Snoopy really put everything on the table for myself. He took me through all the ropes by overseeing everything for a nigga. Basically he just oversaw everything for me and ran me through all the things, the ups and the downs and put me up on game.

Question: Do you find that you are getting love in all areas of the country?

Kurupt: Oh yeah, I'm loving it, they are giving Kurupt more love than anything. A lot of people are requesting "Calling Out Names" and a lot of people are into the music of the album, like on "I Call Shots" and "Welcome Home." The musical songs I got on there, "The Streetz" and "Trylogy" people are feeling. I'm getting both feedback, the negatives and the positives.

Question: Talk about the production on the album.

Kurupt: Daz, Organized Noise (who did TLC's, Goodie Mob's, and Outkast's music), Soopafly, Dr. Dre, Dank from NY dropped me "Girls All Pause" and "Trylogy," Meach Wells dropped me some heat, and Daz oversaw the whole project.

Question: What are some of the differences between doing an album on someone else's label and doing it on your label?

Kurupt: The main difference is, doing it on someone else's label, they get the money. Doing it on mine, I get the money!! That is a big difference. The difference between buying cars and houses.

Question: With the success of this album, when should we expect the second album?

Kurupt: Not at least until 2001. I'm going to wait a little bit, because I'm going to drop something that I call the Trilogy. It is called the Trilogy because I'm dropping three pieces for my next project. I'm going to drop an album, a movie and a book. It is all dedicated to the same situation, It's called "The Life I Live" and it is all dedicated to the same situation. It is all about my life; the book is about my life, everything from Death Row to Foxy and everything, my whole life. The movie is basically narrating what the book is saying. I've got a company that puts out books, I've got the film company already and I've got Antra, so I'm going to put all the companies together.

To continue the on-going war between Eminem and ICP, ICP will be releasing a new Eminem diss called "Mad Vasoline" which will be a single off of Island/Def Jam Records. This is ICP`s counter-attack to Eminem`s Ken Kaniff skit (off of the Marshal Mathers LP). Expect the ICP single to drop in about a month.

Pac News - K-Ci & JoJo, Run-DMC's Run, Mos Def, and Pharcyde rapper Tre will be among the artists featured on an upcoming spoken-word album built from the poetry of slain rapper Tupac Shakur.

The untitled project likely will be released in two volumes, with the first planned for a September release, according to Shakur's former manager and poetry mentor, Leila Steinberg.

Also on tap for the project are Quincy Jones, Tha Outlawz, Danny Glover, Jasmine Guy, Russell Simmons, Moroccan group Providence, poet Sonya Sanchez, and Black Panther Geronimo Pratt.

"We've taken Tupac's poems, left them intact, and let people interpret them in all the different genres and styles of music that we could," Steinberg said.

All the poems were published in "The Rose That Grew From Concrete," which hit stores late last year and features 72 poems Shakur wrote before he released his first solo album, 1992's "2Pacalypse Now." Musical styles represented on the LP include jazz, blues, classical, African, rock, reggae, and rap.

"The bed of music takes on that genre, but the poem itself is spoken," Steinberg said, adding that some artists have chosen to sing the poem after reciting it as a spoken-word piece.

The first artist to record for the project was virtuoso drummer Babatunde Olatunji, who recorded "Please Wake Me When I'm Free" in English and the African language Yoruba over Nigerian-style rhythms and drums.

K-Ci & Jo-Jo will record "Wife for Life" with up-and-coming hip-hop band 4th Avenue Jones, featuring rapper Ahmad, this week in Los Angeles.

Steinberg, a teacher and hip-hop manager who met Shakur when he was a 17-year-old transplant to the suburbs of Oakland, California, is executive producer of the project along with Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur, Jamal Joseph, and Molly Monjauze. She has also videotaped the recording sessions with plans to upload clips to the project's Web site.

Afeni Shakur, who collaborated with Glover on one poem, will make the final calls in putting the project together.

The project will also benefit several charities.

In other news, artists appearing on the Too Gangsta For Radio Compilation from other record labels so far are Mac Dre, but rumors are going around that Treach "from naughty by nature" will also be on the album, as he was also on Chronic 2000 with a collaboration with VK, anyway just thought i'd let yall know that, news is dry now......and im out.

DJ Quik and a documentary on controversial gangsta rap label Death Row Records are on the lineup for next month's UrbanFest L.A.

On Tuesday, just as his new Arista album "Balance & Options" hit stores, California rapper Quik announced that he would join a list of confirmed performers that includes Common, Talib Kweli, De La Soul, Cap One, and Dwayne Wiggins, and more.

In addition, attendees will be able to view a screening of Xenon Entertainment's "Welcome To Death Row," a documentary co-executive produced by label insider Lydia Harris that details the formation, growth, rise, and lapse of the rap label.

Sponsored by the Wherehouse Music/CheckOut.com and the University of Southern California, the UrbanFest L.A. benefit festival celebrates Black Music Month and L.A. Music Week.

Scheduled to be held on June 24 and 25 at the university, UrbanFest L.A. is also expected to draw 10,000 to 12,000 attendees each day.

Another Hip Hop conference to get ready for is the 2nd Annual Tupac Amaru Shakur One Nation Conference. This will be held June 24th at Fremont High School in East Oakland. If this conference is anything like the last one, expect a good turnout as youth, elders and the Hip Hop community come together to dialogue and work toward solving some of the issues that are prevalent in inner-city communities. Conference organizers have noted the best way to honor and celebrate the life and work of Tupac is to continue to work and make many of his dreams a reality. Members of The One nation Committee played an active role in the fight against the anti-youth law Prop 21.

This years conference will include films from the Black Panther Party Film festival. There will be workshops dissecting complex urban issues like Building a Youth Movement, The Media's Influence on Culture, Knowing Your Rights in dealing with Police and Landlords [Oakland is experiencing a major gentrification problem-a lot of folks from the hood are getting evicted left and right]. News - A Southern California mortgage broker once suspected by police of being the triggerman in the 1997 murder of the Notorious P.I.G. is reportedly no longer under suspicion in that case

Police had once theorized that Amir Muhammad had been hired as the hitman by Biggie's rap rival, now-imprisoned Death Row Records CEO Marion "Suge" Knight, in association with Muhammad's longtime friend David Mack, a former Los Angeles Police officer who is currently serving time for bank robbery.

Wednesday's "Los Angeles Times" quotes an L.A.P.D. detective as saying the department hasn't pursued the Muhammad theory in more than a year.

DRE WARZ - George Lucas of Lucasfilm, a production company is suing Gay Dre and charging the hip-hop Wannabe Gangsta with various copyright and trademark wrongdoings. Lucas Films which seeks unspecified damages, hinges on Dre's use of something called the "THX Deep Note," a sound trademarked by Lucas' company. According to Lucasfilm, the sound is the first ever to be trademarked; it should be familiar to moviegoers as the sound that accompanies the THX logo before films screened in theaters with THX sound systems.

It should also be familiar to people as the sound that opens Dre's album "Dr. Dre 2001," which is precisely the problem, according to Lucasfilm. The production company claims that Dre used the sound without the company's permission, prompting Lucasfilm to file the suit against the rapper as well as his Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.

The suit comes on the heels of news that Dre had issued a warning to Napster, Inc., giving the music distribution site until Friday to remove all of his tracks from its pool of potential downloads that were previously on Death Row Records.

Credit goes to o2's Deathrow Site - Well, many people have been disappointed with Death Row's delay of "Snoops Greatest Hits - Dead Man Walking", but don't worry because it will be released. The main problem with the release, if u do not already know, is that Priority broke their distribution contract with Death Row Records. Apparently, Snoop Doggy Hoe was bitching at Priority who also distributes Hoe Limit records. And Priority didn't want to have to deal with losing rights to Hoe Limit so they snitched on Death Row and didn't distribute. Legally speaking, Death Row has a case right here... but its not like Death Row to go suing every other person. Instead Death Row is gonna see that Interscope distributes the album instead of Priority, so you can expect to get the DMW album soon. If Interscope refuses to distribute, Death Row is ready to find another distributor but there is no specific one in mind currently. All we have to do now is wait, and hopefully Death Row won't get stabbed in the back again.

Tupac News - The book titled "The Rose That Grew From Concrete" which is about tupac has sold over 100,000 copies, and also Still I Rise which has been absent from the billboard 100 just recently has almost reached double platinum status. Original Tupac Recordings found - Back in 1991 there was a fire in Oakland of which lots of property was damaged and people killed. Out of all the damage Digital Underground was severly hurt. Shock G lost all his original music, old school tapes, art work and recording studio. DU co-founder Chopmaster J lost his house and recording studio as well. But out of this the original 1989 recordings from a then-young Tupac and his group Strictly Dope which included DJ Dizzy and Ray Luv was thought to be destroyed in the fire. Not too long ago Chopmaster came across a master reel that was stored in his mother's basement. To his surprise it was the original 2Pac recordings and he has since cleaned them up and is set to release a new tupac Lp called "The Lost Tapes". More bad news - The Outlawz are sueing Deathrow Records, Suge Knight Films, Suge Knight, and Interscope records for 4.5 million dollars for not getting their dues for their parts on Deathrow Uncut, and other deathrow projects plus other reasons, more news on this when it comes in.

More news - Snoops Greatest his hasn't been dropped from ever being released as first thought, instead it will be released just probably not under Priority Records as the distributor, and I expect it to come out around Snoops last no limit album "Last Meal".

Dead Man Not Walking - The Deathrow Snoop doggy Dogg at his Best: Dead Man Walking album that was due out April 4th has apparently been scrapped totally at the last minute and is not ever expected to be released at all according to Priority Records, this may be false information and I hope that it is, but if its not its also a good thing for deathrow to let go of the past and put out the new talent that they have on the roster at this time. The date for the Too Gangsta compilation has not changed, it is still may 9th.

Dj Quik featuring Eric Sermon and Kam made a song called U aint fresh, which makes fun of Dr. Dre and tells the truth about his fake gangsta image talkin about real gangstas dont wear tongue rings and how he's gonna try to be fresh when he dont even write his lyrics, and also how dre puts his name on tracks he dont produce for and doesnt contribute anything to the song, just steals credit for them and takes the cash. It will be out on the Balance and Options cd that is out April 18th.

News - Master P has again tried to rip off the greatest MC of all time (Tuapac Amaru Shakur) by aparently going out and getting his own version of a pac wannabe named Crazy. This Pac Soundalike also appeared on an album of Master P's other label besides No Limit called Go Get'em Records, which was supposedly making an album to diss all of No Limits Enemy's including Cash Money Records, Anyway Crazy was on the Cd under the alias of Doc Holiday and from what I heard comes off trying really hard trying to sound like pac. This is also the person that was the Pac-Soundalike for the Makaveli bootlegs 7 & 8. Also I got word that the other rap artist on Snoops Weak attempt at a diss to Deathrow titled: "Deathrow is Bitches" (which you can listen to down the page in REAL AUDIO) is Big C Style who I thought was down with deathrow like the other C (LiL C Sytle: Who is on DPG/Deathrow Records). In other news the Deathrow Snoop Doggy Dogg at his best album has been delayed and no date has been made official for its release, so I guess that means that all deathrow albums will be pushed back indefinatly. Also I dont know for sure, but it appears that Dre may have won the lawsuit against Dr/MusicMaker.com because the Dr. Dre songs which were once there are now gone, or that could be the case just untill the lawsuit is over and pending on the judement they will put the songs back up or leave them off, I'll let you know when I hear more. To end out the news for now the lastest Deathrow album (2pac + Outlawz - Still I Rise) was number 79 on the billboard 200 this week, moving own 10 spots and still remaining at the platinum status.

Dr. Dre V.S. Deathrow has again happened, below I noted you all on some of whats goin on with Dr. Dre's old lawsuit but another one has sprung up and above I told you about the Make your own CD that deathrow has worked a deal for, with that being said here's the down low: Dr. Dre may have his revenge against the former label he created, and then left. If you recall Mid-Last year, Dre dropped his court battle against Death Row over the word "Chronic". Suge released his album, "Suge Knight Presents: Chronic 2000", in an attempt to beat Dre, who was supposed to name his album, The Chronic 2000. Dre dropped his lawsuit, and settled for the boring, but usable, Dr. Dre-2001. Well, enter musicmaker.com. This week they signed a 3 year deal with Death Row Records for future releases, and the labels past catalog. This includes Dre's classic, The Chronic, which Musicmaker is selling in it's entirety for digital download. Dre's attorney, Howard King said that the contract Dre signed with Death Row does not include a clause to sell or license any individual tracks. King stated that the label could only release the album in the exact format and sequence it was released, which means Musicmaker.com cannot sell individual tracks. He said that he would be sending the online retailer a Cease And Desist letter. Musicmaker has announced publicly that they would not remove the tracks until a court reached a decision. Dre ended up with the last laugh, his album moved almost a million copies in the first two weeks it was released, while Death Rows album was released to barely reaching Platinum status.

MTV.com's news page also recently had some things to say about deathrow when talking about snoop and the N.W.A. reunion album. They said the following about the row:

As for Snoop Dogg, on April 4 the rapper's former label, Death Row Records, plans to issue a compilation record, "Snoop Doggy Dogg At His Best," featuring some of Snoop's early hits along with some rare and unreleased material. News - There has been a date set for the Deathrow Uncut soundtrack: Too Gangsta For Radio which is set to come out May 9th. There is also a new contest at the official deathrow site and you can enter to win a Deathrow Snoop Doggy Dogg at his best: "Dead Man Walking" Promo Poster. All you have to do is answer 1 of the following questions and send the answer to: contest@deathrowrecords2000.com The questions are:

Head Doctor - This is the first single for Deathrow Snoop Doggy Dogg at his best "Dead Man Walking" its called Head Doctor featuring Swoop G. Props to the official deathrow site. Also the album has been pushed back to April 4th 2000.

The Dr. - Dr. Dre Filed a lawsuite against Deathrow in 1997 about money that was transfered from his bank accounts when he left the label. When he left it was worked out that he could never file a lawsuite against deathrow so he filed it against the person who is in charge of deathrow's treasury and left all names out of it so it wouldnt be invalid, it just recently went to trial.

Ice Cube & RIP DPGC - Ice Cube's album War and Peace Vol. 2 the Peace Disc is coming out March 21st, one week away from the release of deathrow's next project Deathrow Snoop Doggy Dogg at his best: Dead Man Walking. Also Snoop was on the Howard Stern show about 2 weeks ago and he said that he wasn't a DPG anymore, and on some song he said RIP.....DPGC and he went on to say on Howard stern that he was strictly an EastSida now so that most likely means that he and his cousin Daz wont be working together anymore.

Daz & Snoop Drama - More on Daz, snoop seems to be mad at Daz for one main rumor that has been going around and it is that Daz is doing touch ups and tweaking the production, vocals, and organization of the Deathrow Snoop Doggy Dogg at his Best : Dead Man Walking album that Snoop had already publicly dissed by saying that Snoops Greatest hits hasn't even happened yet, which is total BS considering that his 2 no limit albums are mostly crap, compared to his Deathrow Doggystyle days.

Soopafly - Speaking of the DPG's, there has been lots of websites claiming that Soopafly of DPG/Deathrow Records has left and gone to Snoops Dogghouse Records. All of this info is false because nothing has been denied or confirmed on his release at all, and officially right now he is still with Deathrow/DPG records until the official word is said on his departure or if he will stay. Deathrow plans to release 3 more albums after the Snoop Dogg release by the end of 2000. Those albums are the Deathrow Uncut Soundtrack. The Dogg Pound, and Tha Realest. I don't know the release dates for any of these albums so lets just hope the row stays true to their word and lets these albums drop. Also if you haven't already gotten it, go and Pick up Kurupts new album, its up there with The best albums of 99 and its some straight gritty westcoast gangsta music to bump and bob ya head to. DPG records first release will probably be Tha Dogg Pound joint project with Deathrow, but they also have Crooked I's album planned to drop before the end of 2000.
