January 3, 2002 - Thursday

A day that started badly, but got better quickly.

This morning I woke up alone in my bedroom. It was very sad. Fumihiko had gotten up before me. I didn't even hear him. When I came downstairs his Mum was busy cleaning. I went outside where Fumihiko was shoveling snow and asked what he was doing. He asked me to come and help him, so I said sure, but I wanted to get my coat first. His mum told me on the way in that she wanted me to vacuum upstairs though. Oh dear. So, I vacuumed first and then I went out and shoveled snow a bit. Not too much really.

After that, everyone was in a better mood. We ate breakfast and in a bit after that lunch. We watched a lot of TV, including a Japanese version of Ripley's Believe it or Not. It was okay. Around 2:30 we went out to the grocery store. I didn't do a lot there, but I did carry a few things so I guess I was useful. I was also surprised because Fumihiko's Mum gave me some Otoshidama! That's money that children usually get at New Years. Anyway, I was happy!

After we delivered the groceries Fumihiko and I went out. We went to Denkodo, an electronics store and looked at DVDs and Play Station Games. I used my otoshidama to buy a new game for the Play Station. Yay me!

I thought that we'd go home after that, but Fumihiko had other plans. He wanted to go to Mr. Donuts. We went there and had coffee or a milkshake and then we went to the grocery store. Fumihiko needed to pick up some beer and something non-alcoholic for the the party.

When we got back, his sister and her family had arrived. Oh dear! There was a mad rush to get things on the table, but it was rather fun. Fumihiko gave the kids their otoshidama, so they were happy.

Things went quite nicely and I had fun. It was a nice gathering really. After a while the kids wanted to watch a show on TV and they switched channels. The show they wanted to watch? King of Masters....a show about eating as much as you can in as little time as possible. It was fascinating but at the same time I couldn't help thinking about all of the people in the world that that food could have fed. I told you that Japanese TV is only about food. It's hard to believe, but it's true.

Fumihiko's sister left around 9:00pm and since then we've been just vegging and relaxing. I brought down my computer a while ago to warm it up and since then I've been writing my entry.

And that's it for today. I have an early morning tomorrow. I'm getting up and going to my apartment. I want to do some vegging in a serious way before I go into the office and do a bit of redecorating. I hope I really do it!

I'll chat with you later!
