One Last Wish: Chapter 3

(Two days later)

Hope was relieved that she was finally able to go home. It had been a long and grueling couple weeks in the hospital for her biopsy, surgery, and treatment. So going home meant the world to her. If anything happened, she wanted to be home when if she didn't make it.

"Are you ready sweetheart?" Leigh said coming into Hope's hospital room with a nurse pushing a wheelchair.

"Just about," she turned to see the wheelchair and shook her head, "I'm perfectly fine nurse. I don't need a wheelchair. I can walk."

"It's hospital policy Miss. Evans." The nurse explained.

Hope let out a sigh and sat down in the chair as her mother carried her bags. They went down to the lobby parking area where her dad had been parked and waiting for them.

Once in the car, things were silent for the drive home. All three were contemplating their next move. Hope was actually comfortable with the silence. She needed time to think things through. To finally let reality hit her. Of course she was still recovering from the stress and overload of what had happened to her in the course of a few weeks. The diagns, biopsy, surgery, chemo, and metting Justin Timberlake. That experience was truly the a dream come true. Of course she didn't seriously expect to ever hear from him again, like he had promised, but she was still hopeful. Anything was possible in her mind.

Once they got home, she noticed a bunch of cars in their driveway and balloons popping through the frame of the window. She knew instantly what was about to come.

The door to the hose opened and Hope slowly walked into the living room and was startled by an uproar of people.

"Welcome home," everyone greeted her.

Everyone from her best friends, to her cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, everyone she knew was there. The living room was a sea of people and balloons and streamers lined the shape of the room.

"Do you like it pumpkin?" Hope's father stood behind her with a bright smile.

Hope sighed and decided to go along with her parents exuberant happiness, although her own feeling was pure anguish. "This is so cool dad. Thank you." She replyed with a hug.

Hope didn't want people to see her the way she was. All tired and sickly, but she would do anything for her parents. They were stronghold. The people who she wanted to keep on going for.

"Hey gurlie. I'm glad your feeling better," Beth, Hope's best friend said when she came up to her.

"Hey Beth. Thanks for coming to visit me in the hospital all those times." Hope said hugging her in appreciation.

If there was one thing that Hope learned from her illness, was to always appreciate what you've got. Beth was Hope's oe true friend, and she was grateful for that.

"Hey, there was nothin' better to do then see my best friend. But I heard you met someone that you never told me about." Beth said knowingly.

"Who?"

"HELLO! JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!" Beth said excitedly.

"Ohmygosh Beth, he was so amazing. He was just like I imagined him to be, but better..." the two kept talking constantly about the whole encounter until a phone call interrupted their conversation.

"Sweetheart, someone I think that you would really like to talk to is on the phone." Leigh said coming up to her daughter.

"Okie. Who is it?" She asked curious.

"Just go answer it."

Hope shrugged when she looked over at Beth and went off upstairs into her bedroom to pick up the phone.

"Hello?" She said once she picked up the phone.

"Is this Hope Evans?" A familiar but distant male voice asked on the other line.

"Yes this is she. Who is this?"

"How can you not remember me?"

"Do I know you?"

"Well, you told me that I was all over your walls."

Hope looked up at her room and didn't understand at first, but a single poster of a curly haired blue eyed figure on her door made her freak out.

"So have you guessed yet?"

"Ohmygosh, you actually called." Hope said, not believing that he had called her.

"Of course I would. Remember, I promised I would. A promise is a promise, and I don't break a promise."

"Wow...Justin Timberlake is calling my house. To talk to me. This is unbelievable.

"Well you know what would be more unbelievable...would be if you would go to lunch with me tomorrow."

Hope felt like fainting at that very moment. "Are you serious?"

"Totally."

"But I have to ask my mom."

"Already did. She said yes. So your stuck with me tomorrow."

*And why would that be a bad thing?* Hope thought to herself.

"Are you sure I won't be interfering with something important you have to do?"

"Nope. I have the next 2 weeks off."

"Alright."

"Hey, I'll pick you up around noon tomorrow. I have to go eat. See you tomorrow?"

"Definitly." She answered sure of herself.

"Bye Hope."
"Bye." Once she put the phone down, Beth came in the room and saw her fell onto her bed.

"HOPE? Are you okay?" Beth said unsure of what was wrong with her friend once she ran to her side.

"Justin Timberlake, just called....and he..." her voice trailed off.

"HE WHAT?" Beth asked excitedly.

"He's taking me out for lunch with him tomorrow!" The two of them started screaming, and all the commotion brought practically the whole crowd downstairs upstairs into Hope's bedroom.

(The next day)

Hope woke up early since she could barely sleep thinking about her day out with Justin. Once she got up, she immediatly headed for her closet to find what to wear. She knew that it would take her hours to find the perfect outfit.

About an hour later, she had settled on a baby blue tank top and denim jeans. She finished putting on eye shadow and walked down the stairs and got something to eat.

Her parents were both in the kitchen. Her dad was sitting down reading a newspaper and her mother was cooking some pancakes.

"You look nice sweetheart. But aren't you over doing it with the makeup?" Her mother said holding the shape of her face in her hand and looking her over.

"Oh come one mom. It's only eye shadow and some lipstick." She said yanking her face away.

"Alright. But it makes you look so dark and makes your face look all splotchy."

"Get off the subject already." She said with a stubborn attitude.

"Yes your majesty." Leigh answered as she shook her head.

"So what time is Justin picking you up?" Her dad asked still ingrossed wth his paper.

"In exactly 3 hours, 32 minutes, and 16 seconds, 17 seconds, 18 seconds..." She said excitedly.

"Now that's what I call prepared. Sweetie, why don't you just calm down and eat something. Look at you, your merely skin and bones!" Leigh said looking at how fragile she looked.

"Well the hospital food isn't what I call a MEAL." She answered with disgust.

"Alright...well have some REAL food then."

By noon, Justin's car pulled into the driveway of the Evans' home and he got out and knocked on the door. Hope ran frantically to get but stopped by the hallway mirror first. She opened the door and felt like she was in heaven when she saw Justin standing there.

"Ready to go?" He asked with a husky, yet playful voice.

"Just about."

Hope said goodbye to her parents and followed Justin out to his car. He held the door open for her and waited for her to get inside. Once she did, he walked around the car and sat next to her in the drivers seat and turned his head to look at her.

"So...you ready to have some fun?" Justin asked flashing her a grin.

Hope took a deep breath and nodded her head slowly. She was frightened and excited all at the same time. All she knew was that she was sitting next to Justin Timberlake, in his car, on their way to a day full of surprising events and great expectations.
