One Last Wish: Chapter 4

(In Justin's Car)

Justin had turned up the music in the car so that the silence between them wouldn't be so deafening. Hope seemed to be a shy and quiet type...but he could tell that she was far from that. He would just have to get her to open up to him. It wuz weird, he didn't see her as a doomed cancer patient, but more as a normal teenager. Something that intriguied him. She was the type of person that he wanted to be.

Justin couldn't stand looking at how tense she looked sitting next to him, so he decided to break the ice. "So, where do you want to do after we go to lunch?"

Hope was startled by his sudden break of silence, so her head sprung to look at him the minute she heard him speak. "Umm...whatever you want to do."

"Well, I kinda wanted to treat you to a day of your choice." He said awkwardly.

"Well, why don't we just have lunch and then decide afterward." She suggested.

Justin looked at her and grinned, "sounds good to me." We're here."

The car pulled into a little pizza resturaunt. Justin held the door open for Hope and they walked, side by side, inside and waited to be seated. Once they were seated, Justin took his sunglasses and hat off since he wasn't really likely to be mobbed in a quiet little resturaunt. Once they ordered, Justin started up a conversation.

"So, last time I got to talk to you, you didn't really get to tell me much about yourself." Justin asked curious about what her answer would be.

"Well, what do you want to know?" She asked being surprising blunt.

Justin sat in his chair and thought then finally answered, "anything and everything."

Hope fidgeted in awkwardness and Justin immediatly rephrased what he has just said. "Umm...I mean you can tell me anything about yourself that YOU want to tell me."

Justin noticed Hope relax and slump a little in her seat. "well, I know you're usually the one that get's asked the questions, so how about you ask me a question and I'll do my best to answer it for ya."

Justin liked how she was now being assertive and more comfortable. Also that she was now being playful and kinda flirty from his point of view. "Okie, let's start with the basics...what's your favorite color?"

Hope sat there chewing her lip for a second, then suddenly broke out into an evil grin, "baby blue."

Justin chuckled at her response and replied, "I like you already."

Hope turned deep red with his comment and was overly shy once again. So she was very relieved that the waitor had finally brought their food. At first they were pretty silent as they shared a cheese pizza, but Justin broke the ice once again and continued where he had left off.

"You know, I really do hate having things so quiet. So why don't we undo that...sound good?" he asked nicely.

Hope smiled and nodded, "I think I'll agree with you on that. ******************************************************

Two hours later, six drink refills, three cheese pizzas, and too many laughs(not a bad thing though) later, Justin and Hope had found themselves talking and laughing over the stupidest things.

"I can't believe we've been here this long. Look at how much time we could've used already having fun." Justin said looking at his watch in between laughs.

"Well wasn't our little conversation fun to you?" Hope asked a little offended that maybe all that time she spent telling him her stupidest ideas, embarrassing moments, and so forth, that he really didn't care.

"No of course it was. But I think we better get out of here. I think I know how to spend the rest of the afternoon together."

His words were so upbeat and so well spoken. But the last word he had said "together" stuck in her mind the whole drive to where they were next headed. About half an hour of driving, Hope could she noticed the exit to Disneyland.

"Why are we going to Disneyland?" She asked as they drove around the parking lot looking for a space.

"Well, that's a surprise." He said grinning as he looked at her. His left hand on the wheel and his right hand putting on his sun glasses on.

The two of them walked into the park and Hope was once again reminded of how captivating the whole illusion of the park was. Last time she was there had been when she was still little. Justin just had to smile at her look of awe when the bustling crowd and lights shined on her face.

Hope could see him out of the corner of her eye and she noticed him watching her. "What?"

Justin chuckled a little and replyed, "you have this gleam in your eyes. It's very addictive."

Hope began chewing on her lip and forced her eyes to roam around anywhere else other than his face.

"So, what do you want to do?" He asked as they walked past the sleeping beauty castle.

Hope scanned the area and one ride drew her attention to it the moment she saw it. "There..." she said pointing to it.

"The carousel?" Justin asked confused.

"Yeah, why not?" Hope asked looking him striaght in the eyes for once, but with a look of playful sarcasm.

"Alright." Justin said shrugging.

Hope took him by the hand as they walked through the crowd. Once they got to the front of the line, the two of them sat next to each other on two horses. hope's was pink with a golden mane while Justin's horse was baby blue(well duh! lol! j/k)and had a dark brown mane.

As the ride started, Justin almost fell off the horse. He hadn't been able to get his belt strap on him before the horse started going up and down.

"Are you alright?" Hope asked in between giggles.

"Fine, just fine!" Justin said with a tone of sarcasm. "Do you know how stupid I feel at this point? I'm sitting on a carousel horse, at Disneyland, with millions of people around. Boy do I feel so special!"

Hope couldn't contain her laughter. Every time the horse would move upwards, Justin would hit his head on the roof of the ride.

"Doesn't your head hurt?" She barely got out.

Justin looked at her with a look of warning and pointed his finger straight at her, "don't start with me. Just watch when I get you back for this."

"What are you talking about? You're the one that bought me here. And you told ME to choose the ride, so it was only fitting that I be kind and do follow along." She said sarcastically.

The ride took a couple more rounds then stopped, by that time Justin had practically jumped off the ride. "FINALLY!"

Hope couldn't help but laugh at his cocky wit. "So where to?"

Her beaming face suddenly turned fearful when she saw the evil grin form on Justin's lips. "Oh I think I know the PERFECT ride for the two of us."

"I don't like the sound of that," Hope said jokingly, yet still holding back from his devious sounding plan.

"Oh TRUST ME, you'll love this ride." He took her hand in his and the two walked through the park.

"DUMBO???" She asked quite surprised and confused at the same time.

"Yup. What? You don't want to ride?" Justin asked looking at her blank face.

"Oh no, it was just that, I didn't know you had the Dumbo ride in mind." She said. She was kind of suspicious as to why he chose this ride. It wasn't a wet, scary, or puke potential rie. It was just as, well...kiddie as the carousel was. So why would he choose this ride?

"Oh come on, you don't think I'm THAT cruel, do you?" Justin asked with innocent eyes.

"I dunno, I've only known you for a short while. That's what scares me the most!" She said reluctant to fall into what might have been a trap.

"C'mon, don't you trust me?" Justin asked with a sly smile as he held his hand out for her.

"Here goes nothing," she said placing her hand in his own as they made their way to the front of the crowd.

They quickly slipped to the front of the line without being noticed much. Once they were seated, Justin sat on the inside while Hope sat on the outside seat. The ride started going in a circle as it did normally and at first Justin let Hope control their little flying elephant.

"Can I control it now?" Justin asked as they flew through the air and the wind gently brushed their faces.

"Sure," Hope said completely in all her excitement.

She immediatley snapped back to reality once she noticed Justin making their ride go up and down in a nausea spiral. Obviously he was trying to get back at her for the whole carousel incident earlier, but she couldn't even think straight, much less speak and tell Justin that she wasn't appreciating his little prank. Just as she felt that she was going to fly off the ride and puke, Justin noticed how green and pale she had looked.

"Oh my god, Hope are you alright?" Justin asked as he let go of the control.

That action didn't quite help the situation because at that point their Dumbo cart was at the highest elevation it could reach. Justin's immediate action led the cart to quickly drop to the ground. Once they landed on the lower part of the ride, Justin turned to look at a wide-eyed Hope.

"I'm so sorry about that, are you alright?" Justin asked as the ride slowly stopped.

"No not really. But I will be once the world stops spinning," Hope tried to joke as Justin helped her out of the cart.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel sick." Justin apologized.

Hope slowly regained her strength once they sat down and finally replied, "its alright. I guess I deserved it because of that whole carousel incident."

Justin chuckled a little and answered back, "no it's alright. I shouldn't have done it. I mean being in your condition."

"Condition? What are you talking about?" Hope asked quickly turning her head to look at Justin.

"I didn't mean it that way Hope." Justin quickly replied.

"So what did you mean Justin? Why are being so nice to me anyway? Am I a pity case for you to feel better about yourself? Look me in the eye and telling that I'm reading this all wrong." Hope asked as she stood up and looked down at a somber Justin.

Justin immediatly stood up at looked her straight in the eye,"you were never a pity case to me Hope. I didn't mean to say what I did the way I did, and I'm sorry if you felt offended about that. So to answer your question, why am I doing this? I'm doing this because I saw a genuine person in you that day I met you at the hospital. I liked the person I saw on the outside, and even more in the inside. I'm doing all this cause I want to be your friend. That's all." Justin sighed as he finished speaking.

Hope couldn't help but let a tear fall as she listened to Justin say what he had just said. It was so touching and so heart felt, something that she had never had a taste of before. "I'm sorry I doubted you. That was very sweet. What you've just said means more to me than you think. I just honestly couldn't believe that THE Justin Timberlake was standing in front of me and trying to be my friend. Thank you."

Justin lifted his hand to her wet cheek and gently rubbed away her tears. He gently smiled and said, "you don't have to thank me. I just want you to enjoy yourself today. So what do you say?"

Hope's eyes soon lit up once again as she smiled at him and answered, "I say let's go have some fun!"

(A couple hours Later)

Justin and Hope had been at the park for about four hours and they hadn't gotten very far. Every so often they would either stop to eat, play games, ride certain rides more than once, or take pictures.

"I can't believe you got that guy to let us ride twice." Justin chuckled as they walked off the bumper cars.

Justin had been referring to Hope's flirty charm that got them a chance to ride the bumper cars twice without having to wait in line. It wasn't really a wonder though, of course the chemotherapy had shorten her fiery dark auburn hair down to her shoulders but it was still visibly beautiful, her tall 5'7" frame was sleek and athletic, her light green eyes lit up her fair complexion, and her bright smile was good enough to make any guy fall for her.

"Well, all you need is a smile and brain." She commented as she smiled brightly at Justin.

Justin chuckled at her comment and replied, "so does that mean that guy would have fallen for my charm too?"

Hope jokingly punched his arm and answered," very funny Timberlake."

"Timberlake? I thought my name was Justin?" Justin teased.

"It is, but I rather call you Timberlake. I like it better." Hope simply explained.

"So does that mean I can call you Evans?" Justin joked.

"No. But you can call me the name my parents gave me, Hope." She said as her eyes lit up.

Justin liked seeing her eyes light up the way they did. He hoped that it would help her forget about everything else bad going on in her life.

"So why did your parents name you Hope anyway?" Justin asked as they started to walk down main street.

Hope walked quietly and thought for a moment before she answered, "My mom had had a couple of miscarriages before she became pregnant with me. So when she was about six months pregnant with me, they found out I was a girl and named me Hope. Then when I was born, I was named Hope Lynette Evans. She said she named me Hope because I gave her hope for the future," Hope thought about what she had just said and continued, "I guess I wasn't set much for a great future."

Justin turned to see the life in her eyes quickly disappear. I'm sorry if I made you feel bad. You know that that is the last thing I would ever want to do to you." Justin said as he hugged her close to him.

"It's alright, I guess I'm just a little tired." Hope said as she gently pushed away from Justin. She didn't really want to, he had such a tight but caring hold on her and it made her feel so secure. But she was tired from their little outing and she didn't exaclty have as much strength as usual since all her medications were very strength draining. Plus it was already about six o'clock and the sun was just starting to set.

"Yah, I'm sure you are. Why don't we get out of here and go some place quiet?" Justin suggested.

Hope nodded her head and they made their out of the park and into the parking lot.

(In the car)

Hope was slowly drifting off to sleep when she woke up and realized that the direction that they were going was opposite of her house. "Uh, Justin? Where are we going?"

Justin turned and smiled at her, "oh good your awake. I told you that I would bring you somewhere quiet, didn't I?"

Hope looked confused but nodded and sat back in her chair. Within a couple minutes, Justin had parked the car by a secluded hillside. Justin got out of the car and opened the door for Hope but noticed that she wasn't moving from her seat. She just sat there and stared.

"Hope what's the matter?" Justin asked concerned.

"You didn't bring me here to kill me and leave my body to rot did you?" She teased.

"No, don't worry, you can trust me," Justin laughed.

The two of them walked a little ways off and stopped by the peak of the hill. Hope stood their in awe as she looked at the breath-taking view. Down below her stood Orlando. Busy and bustling as it always was. As if it never slept.

"This is beautiful. How did you know about this place though?" Hope asked, keeping her gaze on the city below her.

"Well, why don't we sit down and I'll tell you," Justin said as the two of them sat on the grass underneath them. "I found this place when I was little. My dad brought me here the day before he left to live in Memphis after my parents got divorced. And every time I need to be alone, I just come up here. My house is just a block away. So I was able to come here a lot. But ever since we started touring, I haven't been able to come up here as much." Hope was amazed at how open and honest Justin was being to her. But in a way, it made her feel more secure about opening up to him herself.

"You took your parents divorce harsh huh?" Hope asked softly.

Justin turned and gave her a small smile, "I did. But I realized that they're with the people they're meant to be with now. At least their happy. But enough about me, so what do you think about this place?"

Hope finally turned and looked at him and smiled, "it's beautiful. Unlike anything I've ever seen. Thank you for today Timberlake. I won't ever forget it."

"I'm glad you had fun." Justin smiled.

"Justin, it today meant a lot to me. You and me both know that I don't have much time left to enjoy everything that life has to offer, but you helped me forget about that today. I owe you for that. And seriously I won't forget it. Even if I don't have long to try to forget it." Hope said thanking him.

"Don't mention it. You made me feel more of a person than a start today. Something I've missed. So you don't owe me fr anything. We're even. And no matter what anyone says, I see a strong person inside you, and I know that you won't let your cancer get the best of you. I believe in you." Justin said as the sun gave away to the West and the stars lit the sky.

"Thanks for believing in me. I just hope I can be as strong as you say I am. I wanna be able to love life. I want to help people."

Justin put his arm around her and hugged her close to him, "Hope, you're an intriguing person, and I know that you'll make the best of whatever you have. That's why I believe in you so much."
