One Last Wish: Chapter 1

"Hope...sweetheart, me and your dad are going to the party. Hope? Do you hear me?" Leigh called to her daughter. She could hear the loud music coming from Hope's room. She knew then, that her statement had not been heard.

"HOPE! Turn that racket off already!" Leigh said opening Hope's bedroom door and finding her dancing around.
Hope quickly turned off the music and rolled her eyes at her mother. "It's not racket mom. It's Nsync! THE best boy group. If I had one last wish, it would be to meet them."

"That's all I ever hear from you nowadays. Nsync this, Nsync that. If and when I meet those boys, I'll teach them what good music really is." Leigh said looking around at the room wallpapered with pictures of Nsync.

"MOM! You have to admit that their music is phenomenal." Hope said circling around her room, inspired by the five guys that looked at her from her walls.

"Whatever you say sweetheart. Look, me and your dad are leaving right now for the Standish party. I want you to behave. You understand?" Leigh said pointing a finger at her.

Hope plopped down on her bed and sarcastically rolled her eyes at her mother once more before answering, "I know mom. don't worry about me. You and dad just have some fun alright?"

Leigh couldn't resist Hope's caring smile once she showed it. She bent down to her daughter's bed and gave her a kiss before walking out the door. A couple of minutes later, Hope could hear her mother and father walk out the front door and exit the garage.

"Well, what should I do tonight Mista Timberlake?" Hope said talking to one of her many Justin posters on her wall.

"Sounds like a good idea. I think I will go play some basketball. One on...wutever!" Hope got off her bed and ran downstairs.

"So what are we doing tonight?" Justin asked as he walked into the already occupied living room.

Justin sat on the only space left on the couch, next to a sleepy JC. After not getting much of an answer, just some shrugs and blank faces, he continued with his one person conversation.

"So are just staying home tonight then?" Justin was still not replyed too. He figured it was useless.

The guys were finally back in Florida and they were happy to be with the people they missed so much. So it was no wonder that they just wanted to stay home on one of the only rare days they got off.

It was close to midnight when Hope had finished eating a late night snack. Suddenly, she was overcome with excrutiating pain around her stomach. It was like a constant pounding in her gut. Her panic caused her to gradually loose her breath and she fainted.

It wasn't until a couple hours later that Hope's parents had gotten home. They found Hope's room empty, but a light was still on in the kitchen. The very moment that Leigh Evans walked into the kitchen her worst nightmare played out in front of her. She screamed to her husband Daniel once she knelt down and found that Hope wasn't breathing.

Hope rushed immediatley to the hospital within a slit second. By the time she go there, she was awake and hysterical over the pain that she was feeling. She was given a sedative and then finally examined.

Hope didn't wake up until the late morning. She flickered her eyes opened to see her mother sitting next to her stroking her hair.

"Mom, what happened?" She asked confused of her surroundings.

"I don't know sweetie. But I promise that it will all be alright." She said reassuring her tired daughter.

Hope turned her head when she heard a door open. In came her father and a tall and dark haired doctor in a white labcoat. Robert Evans gave Hope a small smile but it quickly faded when he looked at his wife.

"Hello Hope. I'm Dr. Blau. Do you mind if I talk to you parents for a moment?" He asked cecking her vitals then giving her a small smile.

Hope, unsure and scared of her present condition, nodded her head slowly then watched her parents and Dr. Blau walk out. She let out a sigh of nervousness as the door closed behind them.

Once the door shut behind them, Leigh bluntly asked Dr. Blau, "what's wrong with her?"

Dr. Blau looked at the two distraught parents and finally spoke. "During your daughter's examination in the ER, tests were done. We found two large masses enclosing her liver. Pathology reports conclude that they are cancerous."

At that moment, Leigh fell to the ground in tears. She couldn't believe that the very words that had just come out of Dr. Blau's mouth were real.

Robert Evans cradled his crying wife and let her sob for a minute. He finally helped her up and she gained the strength inside of her and spoke again.

"How bad is it?" She asked scared of what the reply to her question would be.

Dr. Blau looked at the women before him and gave her the worst news of her life as best he could
.
"The cancer is in it's final stages."

Mr. Evans shut his eyes tight to hold back the tears that were forming in his eyes.

"Is my daughter going to live?" He asked with his eyes still closed.

"At this point, as far along as the cancer is, there is a 15% chance of your daughter surviving with treatment. 5% if she doesn't get treated."

The two parents hugged each other tightly and sobbed as the doctor waited.

"It is up to you if you want to tell Hope or if you would want me to tell her. Either way, the outcome would be the same." Dr. Blau explained.

Leigh looked up through her watery eyes and answered, "I want to tell her."

Both men nodded their heads as she dried her red eyes and got ready to walk back into the room.

When they walked into the room, they found Hope lying in her bed patiently. Dr. Blau and Mr. Evans both stopped at the door and let Leigh go close to Hope.

Hope saw the agony in all of their faces. It made her even more scared than before. "Mom? What's wrong?"

Leigh took a deep breath and held her daughter's hand in her own. "Hope, sweetie, I don't know how to tell you this any other way. The doctors found out that you have cancer."

Hope world shattered at the moment her mother said that word. 'Cancer'. It scared her to the core. She couldn't believe what was happening. She hadn't even noticed that her mother was hugging her tightly as so was her father. She didn't have time to react. She didn't know how.

"Mom, am I going to live?" She said as tears began to form in the corners of her eyes. When her mother didn't answer, but only wept more, she burst into tears.

"But how? I'm only 17. Why? Why me?" She called out in between tears. She felt so much pain at that moment. But it wasn't physical pain. It was emotional pain. The pain that she knew that she didn't much of a life left.
