Meeting The Djuma Gang

I was very fortunate and priviledged to meet many of the Africam staff at Djuma. Of course most I had "spoken to" via the chat or boma before, but never met any in person. I met Pippa briefly, in JHB but she was passing through on her way for a short vaction. At Djuma I got to meet and enjoy her company on several ocassions. The first time we really got together was at Djuma Bush Lodge over dinner. She, Jurrie, Link and Jojo all came to dinner to meet me. I am glad they did, meeting them all was a pleasure. Pippa is very friendly and LOVES TO TALK. What made this evening special was all the stories that flew around the table. Jurrie had some that are hair raising, as did Link, and another staff member Jay. Great conversations went on about the elephant cull. Finally sitting and chatting "in the flesh" with these folks was a thrill. Meeting such interesting people, who love what they do really added to my trip. Later in my trip, I was pleased to meet Anne Marie and Andre, who were operating the vgd after Link and Jojo left on leave. The team came on a drive or 2 with the jeep I was in, and I am sure by how hard I had them laughing, I was responsible for more then one blurry picture. Not many pictures they took of me were a surprise as I pretty much mugged for them anytime I saw the camera. One drive I got hold of the camera, turning it on myself. Eventually we found some dwarf mongoose, at whch point I handed the camera back, in the interest of any cammers seeing a picture that was recognizable. It aint as easy as it looks! Another dinner more interesting Africam staff. I meet Bruce and Lance 2 of the men who install Africams cameras. Interesting discussions ensued , about the eagles, and the tricky instalation of the camera. We also talked about the Wreck and Shark Cams, and how tough that was,and Lance's hopes for it in the future. On last group I must mention is the lodge staff at Djuma Bush Lodge where I was the longest staying guest on record. 15 days of being spoiled wrotten and having every wish attended to. Being there so long I became more a friend then I was a guest. Special thanks to Lisa,Chris and Nicci for not only their constant professional attention, but the friendships we developed in such a relatively short time. Another group that made my stay in South Africa most memorable and pleasant!! It was a pleasure to have met U all and I will stay in touch. Frank's Place Main or Dinner Guests At Djuma
