Chapter 10

Brian's View

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK! Someone was outside the door and it wasn't anyone we knew. The ambulance had come and gone but Nick hadn't been with them. We noticed it right away and I wanted to go look for him but Kevin held me back. Now here was someone outside waiting for us to open the door. We knew it wasn't Nick, he usually yelled "Open the door it's me!" But this person was silent. So silent that we could hear yelling from down the hall getting closer and closer.

"Brian! Don’t open the door! It's im! Don't open the door! DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR!"

Then it stopped. Outside the door, we heard scuffling, the sound of skin-on-skin, and the bangs of bodies hitting the wall. "NICK!" Nothing in the world could've held me back at that moment. I threw Kevin off of my back and yanked open the door. There, at the end of the hall, looking as if he'd seen a ghost stood Nick. In front of me, Ryan and the ninja were in the biggest fight so far. Kicks and punches were flying left and right. Ryan delivered a kick that sent the ninja into the wall. Turning to me, he pulled out a handgun and aimed at me. The next few things happened in slow motion. I heard Nick screaming from the end of the hall. I heard the gun go off but I never felt the bullet. A flash of blue flew in front of me and brought me to the ground. I was pulled back into the room by Nick and the door was shut. From the other side more fighting went on. Then…silence. The door opened and the ninja entered the room. A dark spot was forming over its stomach and blood was on its fingers.

"Y-y-you! You took the bullet!" It looked down and saw the blood leaking into its clothes. Then it looked at its fingers. Finally it spoke. "You guys need to get out of here and to a safe place. Don't go anywhere and don't open the door. Kat will go to the hospital and check on Shane. Then she'll bring him here. If you need anything, either Kat or I will take care of it." And with that, it disappeared.

That night, while the others watched a movie, I locked myself in my room. I couldn't get over the fact that someone had taken a bullet for me. I'd come close to death again but still I survived. This was the third time in 27 years. (AN: Remember, "Little Tyke…" began in 1999 then it skipped ahead three years so everyone is three years older in this.) 'Am I really THAT important to the Man upstairs? I mean, first I live through all that crap I went through when I was five, then a 2 1/2 hour surgery that was only supposed to be 45 minutes and now I'm sent an angel to protect me and he/she is more of a warrior than an angel.' It was way too confusing. What was even more confusing was that we thought Kat was the ninja but neither of them dropped a hint about it. Kat said all would be revealed and that made us curious but who was who? And was the ninja a warrior or angel?
