We were all chilling on the guys' bus one day when something happened. Something good, though. Not anything bad yet.
"HA! I win!" Elissa screamed after beating Nick on an N64 game.
"Not fair! You cheated!" he protested.
"Hell no! I won fair and square!"
"Did not!"
"Did too!"
"Not!"
"Too!"
"Not!"
"Too!"
"SHUT UP!" Korin, AJ, Karen, Howie, Alta, Kevin, Brian, and I all screamed at the same time.
Nick and Lissa just ignored us and went back to playing Nintendo. I sighed as I leaned back against Brian. We were sitting on one of the little couches, with me on his lap. I felt his arms tighten around my waist and I smiled.
"Somebody turn the radio on. I'm sick of listening to the N64 freaks," I said.
"Do it yourself!" Kori, Karen, and Alta replied in unison. They knew me all too well. Lissa was too busy concentrating on the video game screen.
"But I'm too comfortable," I whined.
They rolled their eyes.
"HA! HA! HA! I kicked your ass! So there!" Nick yelled.
"I'll do it," Karen said quickly, getting up to turn it on.
She flipped stations for awhile, and finally stopped on Z95.7 (we were near Oakland, CA, which was going to be a FUN concert since it was close to our hometown). She sat down as Marcus D's voice came on.
"This new Z-Track is by a girl group that actually grew up in the Bay Area. You can catch them opening up for the Backstreet Boys tonight at the Oakland Coliseum. For the first time ever on the Z, here's Illusion with their first single, 'Just An Illusion'."
The beginning notes of the song played, and we all looked at each other in shock. It was us...it had to be us...but we couldn't believe it. As the song went on, we continued to stare at each other in shock.
Said you'd always be there for me
Said that you would always care
You said that you loved me baby
You said you couldn't live without me
But baby you were just an illusion
Was there ever anything
Cause I thought there was
I thought that you were the one for me
Baby tell me what I was thinking
Cause you told me we would always be together
It was just a lie
You told me I was the one you wanted for life
Who were you trying to fool
Said you'd always be there for me
Said that you would always care
You said that you loved me baby
You said you couldn't live without me
But baby you were just an illusion
All the times you looked in my eyes
Looked like you actually cared about me boy
And then you'd kiss me like we were in love
I shouldn't ever have let you love me
Cause you told me we would always be together
It was just a lie boy
You told me I was the one you wanted for life
Who were you trying to fool tell me baby right now
Said you'd always be there for me
Said that you would always care
You said that you loved me baby
You said you couldn't live without me
But baby you were just an illusion
But now
I'm not blind anymore
Now I see you
For what you really are
A liar
A cheater
Someone I never should have trusted
And never will again
Said you'd always be there for me
Said that you would always care
You said that you loved me baby
You said you couldn't live without me
But baby you were just an illusion
Said you'd always be there for me
Said that you would always care
You said that you loved me baby
You said you couldn't live without me
But baby you were just an illusion
But baby you were just an illusion
As the song ended, we all burst into screams. Our song was on the radio. OUR song. And not just any radio station, but a San Francisco radio station, which had thousands and thousands and thousands of listeners! I pointed that out, and we all started screaming and jumping up and down again. The guys hugged us and congratulated us. Everything that happened for the rest of the bus trip was pretty much just a blur. We were all on a high that no drug high could ever compare to.
The high had pretty much worn down by the time we got to Oakland, but it started up again the second the concert started. All our families and friends were there, which just added to the excitement. I spent the rest of the night with my parents, and I knew the other girls did the same. We had barely seen them at all since we moved out to Florida, and we hadn't seen them at all since we'd been on tour. I'm not sure what the guys did that night. I think they just went back to the hotel and hung out. I got back to the hotel at about 1 AM. I unlocked my room and immediately changed into sweatpants and a Sacramento Monarchs t-shirt. I got into bed and tried to go to sleep, but I guess I was too pumped up from the whole day, because I couldn't. After lying in bed for about an hour, I jumped out of bed and walked over to Brian's room. I knocked on his door, and a few minutes later, a very sleepy Bri answered the door.
"Oh god I'm sorry I woke you up," I said, immediately regretting my decision to go to his room.
"Nah, that's ok, as long as it's you at the door, I don't mind," he replied. "Here, come on in,"
I nodded and walked into his room, shutting the door behind me.
"So what's up?" Brian asked.
I shrugged. "I just have insomnia. I absolutely cannot get to sleep. I came here because...well...I don't know why I came here," I said.
He smiled. "Hey, that's ok, I'm here for ya, even if it's at 2 AM. You wanna sleep here tonight? It might help you get to sleep," he said.
I grinned. "Ok, I bet it will. Thank you SO much, Brian."
"Don't thank me. Just helping out my girl. It's not like I mind you sleeping with me anyway," he said with a laugh.
His girl. I was his girl. I loved the sound of that.
I smiled at him. "Well, let's see if we can get some sleep."
We climbed into bed and he wrapped his arms around me. I snuggled up to him and sighed with contentment. We were so close I could hear his heart beating. As I fell asleep, I knew there was no other place I'd rather be - ever.
