Fans of mod-influenced rock n' roll will surely dig Star Collector.
Having finished mixing with GGGarth Richardson (Red Hot Chili
Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, 54-40, Catherine Wheel, Rusty),
these beat-boys have no interest in 7-minute drum solos. Their debut
CD, Demo Model 256, & the singles, Skyscraper & Slowfade, have been
getting airplay on Vancouver's CFOX (Including 2 on-air interviews),
CBC's Radio Escapade & RadioSonic & CFOX's The David Hawkes Show.
Also, local stations CITR & CFRO have been playing numerous cuts.
Star Collector's 1st video, Skyscraper, recently appeared on
MuchMusic, MuchWest & CBC & the band has played live on VTV Breakfast
& Rogers Daytime. On July 17, they recorded Leonard Cohen's
'Bird On The Wire' for the upcoming feature film "Sons Of Cohen".
Songs from Demo Model 256 are also featured on The Canadian
Independent Box Set, Northern Lights Vol. 1, Local Harmonies & Jet Set
Airport Lounge compilation CD's. To boot, a CD-rom put out by
Riffage.com called JetSet 2 Airport Lounge, which features
Skyscraper, was distributed with the June 2000 issue of SPIN Magazine.
On The WORLD!WIDE!WEB!, Star Collector has been a featured artist on
MP3.com (charting at #1 in the alternative/mod genre) & twice made
the 'Hot MP3's' list with Skyscraper. This song also charted at #1 on
Riffage.com. Slowfade, Half Of Nothing & The Lemming Song made the
top 10 on these sites as well & the band's tunes were downloaded over
2500 times in the 1st month they were available. Star Collector is
also currently on Rollingstone.com & was a featured artist on the
prestigious FatMP3.com, Kickinthehead.com& Traxinspace.com sites.
Star Collector's shows at NewMusicWest 2000, The Starfish Room,
Railway Club, U.B.C., Piccadilly Pub, Brickyard, The Roxy, Purple
Onion, Subeezpalooza, ANZA Club, Vancouver Press Club, Just Cause '99
Festival, & The Marine Club have been smashing successes with
hundreds of people turning sweat into sarsparilla each night. Their manager,
Mr. Kincaid, guarantees that seeing them live is the toppermost-of-the-poppermost so...Cum On Feel The Noize!!
(Star Collector is currently mixing their 2nd CD to be released in early
2001)
(Check out the "Shows" link for upcoming gigs!)

A shining example of power-pop...real musical skill,
verve and a broad intellectual perspective. The band also
is very good live and brings an understanding of Mod-era
excitement to their musical attack & a flair for melody
evident from the CD's first track, Skyscraper.
-Tom Harrison (The Province) - Apr.15/99
Addictive melodies, seductive harmonies,
well-played and really tightly written songs that are
immediately accessible. The production is crisp and clear.
Lots of songs that sound like singles.
A really good CD.
-Trace Ventura (CFOX) - Mar.99
Quite a few tunes on
DemoModel 256achieve a propulsive summery feeling
that raises the album above the pack. Skyscraper,
Turn You On & Motorcycle in particular.
These guys have a definite knack for hummable melodies. DemoModel 256
succeeds as an unpretentious power-pop record, with punchy
car radio production (courtesy of GGGarth Richardson)
and catchy tunes.
-Shawn Conner (The Georgia Straight) - May 27/99
Star Collector played
three sets last Friday night. For most acts this would
be difficult, however this band has the material, energy
and drive to fill the bill. Their new release is DemoModel 256
- I'll be picking up a copy.

(North Shore News) - July 02/99
Demo Model 256 has that..."greatest
hits" feeling to it, and just doesn't let up over the
course of its 12 songs...The big ringing chords, mod-ish
riffs, and happy-boy harmonies make me smile, and every
one of these hooks succeeds in reeling me in. A smattering
of the strongest tracks: Skyscraper, Turn You On,
and my own favourite, Motorcycle.

Strong Mod-Pop with no
pretense. Highly listenable & enjoyable. Great music.

These Canadian rockers tear a page from the Oasis songbook to craft their own Power-Pop
with glassy, overdriven guitar tones (and) tight harmonies...
