You'll start in your house in Pallet Town. Walk over to your PC and withdraw your Potion. Go outside. There are other houses but you don't need to check them out yet. Go up onto a grassy path. Professor Oak will stop you and drag you into his lab, where he will give you and your rival a choice of three Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. They all have their advantages: Bulbasaur has the highest HP, Squirtle has the best Defense, and Charmander has the best Attack. It doesn't matter which one you pick; they are all good. On your way out, Rival will challenge you. If your Pokémon gets weak, revive it with your Potion. After you beat him, head to Rival's House and pick up a Town Map from his sister. Then it's off to Route One!

You'll run into wild Pokémon here. Fight them to earn experience for your Pokémon or Run Away. You can't catch them yet. A man here will give you a Potion. Keep walking to reach Viridian City!

Heal your Pokémon at the Pokémon Center if needed. Then go to the Pokémon Mart and pick up Oak's Parcel. Deliver it to him back at his lab and you and Rival will recieve a Pokédex. Then go back to Viridian City.

Buy 10-15 Pokéballs at the Pokémon Mart, then go back to Route 1.

You will see weird looking shrubs along the pathway. When you get the Cut HM, you can Cut down the bushes and trade an Abra for a Mr. Mime with a man. You'll also find a Moon Stone and an HP Up. Keep that in mind for later. But for now, just go up into Viridian Forest.

Enter the Pokémon Gym to face your first Gym Trainer, Brock. He trains Rock Pokémon. Use Squirtle or Bulbasaur against him. Get Charmander up to a very high level or you're dead.

Don't leave Pewter City yet! Go up to the big building, the Pewter Museum of Science. It costs $50 to get in, but what really counts is the building near the back. When you get the Cut HM, come back here and Cut down the bushes near the back. You'll gain access to the Pewter Museum of Science Lab, where you'll get the Old Amber. This will be turned into a Pokémon known as Aerodactyl later in the game. It doesn't evolve. Now you can leave Pewter City. Go left into Route 3.

This area is easy. Just follow the path and fight the Rival Trainers. A man in the Pokémon Center will offer you a Magikarp for $500. Magikarps are common, so don't buy it. When you're done, go in the hole in the wall. That's the entrance to Mt. Moon.

Now, go up, right, down, right, up, right, down, left, down, left, up, right, up, and towards the Rival Trainer. Beat him and he'll give you a choice of two fossils: the Helix Fossil and the Dome Fossil. These will be turned into Pokémon later on in the game. The Dome Fossil will give you Kabuto, good on Attack. It evolves into Kabutops at Lv. 40. The Helix Fossil will give you Omanyte, good on Defense. It evolves into Omastar at Lv. 40. Now go up, left, down, right, and into the ladder. Now go right into the ladder. Finally! You're out of Mt. Moon! If you look around Mt. Moon, you'll find 2 Potions, TM 12 (Water Gun), a Rare Candy, an Escape Rope, a Moon Stone, TM 01 (Mega Punch), and an HP Up.

A man in a house will give you a Jynx for a Poliwhirl. You can't get a Poliwhirl until later on in the game, so just keep this place in mind. For know, just head to the Pokémon Gym. Misty is the leader here. She trains Water Pokémon, so use Paras, Bulbasaur (which most likely evolved into Ivysaur), or Pikachu.

Now that you've beaten Misty, go up into Route 24. You'll battle Rival. He has four Pokémon that vary depending on your starting Pokémon. Once you beat him, you'll have to face 6 Team Rocket Trainers. Beat them all and you'll recieve a Nugget. Look closely around Route 24 and you'll find a TM 45. (Thunder Wave) Now go left into Route 25.

A Pokémon will be waiting inside. It's Bill, the world-famous Pokémaniac. During one of his experiments, he accidently turned himself into a Pokémon. Press the button on his PC to reverse the process. He'll give you his S. S. Anne Ticket. Exit Sea Cottage and re-enter. Check out his PC to learn about some very rare Pokémon.

Go back to Cerulean City. Go into the house guarded by a police officer. Go into the back door of the house to enter Route 5. Battle the Team Rocket Trainer. If you beat him, you earn a TM 28. (Dig) Keep following the path until you get to a clearing with 3 houses. The first is a Pokémon Daycare. This man will raise your Pokémon for $200 a Level. The next house is the Underground Path entrance. The last house is the Saffron City entrance. However, the road to Saffron City is closed off. Go into the Underground Path instead.

Go into the far left house and tell the man that you love fishing. He'll give you an Old Rod. Use it to fish for Pokémon in water. Depending on what Rod you have and where you're fishing, you can find many different Pokémon.

But back to Vermilion City. Go down to the next row of houses. Go into the far left one. Talk to the man sitting on the couch. He'll start into a long story. When he's finished talking, he'll give you the Bike Voucher for listening to his story. When you have the time, go back to Cerulean City and get your very own Bicycle in the bottom left house! Now, go into the house on that house's right. A man in there will give you a Farfetch'd for a Spearow. Now, go down the dock towards the S. S. Anne.

You can check around the place, but to pass the S. S. Anne quickly, keep following the path to get directly to Rival. Beat him, then go up into the Captain's Quarters. Talk to the Captain to get HM 01. (Cut) Now, leave the S. S. Anne. It will sail away. If you look closely, you'll find a TM 08, (Body Slam) an Ether, a Max Potion, a TM 44, (Rest) a Great Ball, a Max Ether, and a Rare Candy.

Head back to Vermilion City. Cut down the bush and enter the Pokémon Gym. Look in the garbage cans and you'll eventually find the switch needed to access the Gym Leader. The second switch is right beside the first switch. The Gym Trainer is Lt. Surge. He trains Electric Pokémon, so use Geodude or Sandshrew against him.

Rewards: Thunder Badge, (Increases the Speed of your Pokémon, lets you use HM 02, Fly) and TM 24. (Thunderbolt)

Take the right exit out of Vermilion City into Route 11. Don't bother trudging through this place. The next road is blocked, but you can get an Item Finder there if you have 30 or more Pokémon. Just catch the new Pokémon here and head into the mountain, Diglett's Cave.

Head to the second row of bottom houses. Go in the first one. A man will give you a Coin Case. Then head up to the first house with a sign on it.

It is the Rocket Game Corner. Using the Coin Case, you can win or buy coins and trade them in for rare Pokémon and TMs next door.

Go right, down the stairs. Go down, left, and up into the stairs. Go left, down, and work your way through the maze. Go in the stairs at the end. Go up and left. Beat the Team Rocket Trainer to get a Lift Key. Go back the way you came, but stop at the second ladder. Work your way through the maze. Ignore the stairs at the end. Instead, go up, right, and down into the lift. Go to B4F. Go up to fight Team Rocket's boss, Giovanni. When you beat him, you'll get a Silph Scope. If you look around, you'll find an Escape Rope, a Hyper Potion, a Nugget, a TM 07, (Horn Drill) a Moon Stone, a Super Potion, a Rare Candy, a TM 10, (Double-Edge) a TM 02, (Razor Wind) an HP Up, and an Iron. Then go to the Pokémon Gym.

The Gym Trainer here is Erika. She trains Grass Pokémon, so use a Fire, Poison, Flying, or Bug Pokémon against her.

Now, go back to Lavender Town. Go into the big building, Pokémon Tower.

Follow the path to get through this place. You'll face Rival on the second floor. When you get to the top, the missing Mr. Fuji will give you the Poké Flute and warp you out of there. If you look around, you'll find an Escape Rope, an Awakening, an Elixer, an HP Up, a Nugget, an X Accuracy, and a Rare Candy.

Go back to Celadon City and buy a Fresh Water. Give it to one of the Saffron City guards. He'll share it with the other guards, and let you pass through!

Saffron City is being taken over by Team Rocket, who won't let you go to many places. Go down to the last row of houses. Go in the far right one. A man will give you TM 29. (Psychic)

Now go up to the top row of houses. You will notice two Pokémon Gyms. The first is being guarded, so enter the second. Beat all the trainers and you'll be given a choice of two Pokémon: Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan. Hitmonchan has higher HP, and Hitmonlee has a higher Special rating, so it doesn't matter which one you pick, they are both good.

Head into the big building. It's Silph Co., Team Rocket's new hideout.

Go up the stairs to the fifth floor. Get the Card Key and go back down to the third floor. Open the door on the left and take the warp tile. You will again fight Rival. A man in that room will give you the Pokémon Lapras. Go in the bottom left warp tile. Go down, left, and up to face Giovanni. Beat him to recieve the Master Ball. Then, go down to the fourth floor. Surf in the left river to find Articuno! This is your only chance to capture it, so Save first.

You'll find yourself in a maze. Go up, right, down, right, down, left, and follow the path until you find a ladder. Go in it. Follow the path and go in the next ladder. Now, just follow the path until you find Mewtwo. This is your only chance to capture it, so Save first. Use the Master Ball if you still have it, but if not, just capture Mewtwo normally.
