The important decisions made today
With only the best in mind;
May tomorrow prove to be quite unwise,
Unfair, or most unkind.
The forks in the road are numerous;
The right paths to trod are few;
Choices and chances present
themselves,
But their destinies offer no clue.
Opportunities shiny and bright
Seem to knock on neighbors' doors;
Then, too late, just wouldn't you
know,
It decides to knock on yours!
Have you noticed it seems to be
That the losses outweigh the wins?
And the virtues so sparse in number
Just make room for many sins?
So you see why decisions today
Made with only the best in mind;
Can tomorrow prove to be quite
unwise,
Unfair, and most
unkind
Middle-Age
Thickening
At age thirty-five,
The waist comes alive,
And decides to move
To another groove.
A few years more,
There are changes in store;
For what passes the lips
Lands on the hips.
At age forty-two,
You'll find to be true,
That a chocolate shake
Five pounds it will make.
At age forty-six.
There is no fix
For side-pockets round
Which grow toward the ground.
At age forty-eight,
You'll come to hate
All the latest devices
For exercises.
At age Five-Oh,
I hate to say so;
But it's too late for whining
About fast food dining.
Yes it just ain't no use
In my trying to reduce;
For the thickening look
Is just fine in my book!
