The USS Dewey Diving club was formed to help arrange dives while on deployment or stateside.

The ships diver patch above was design by crewmembers. Members (SEA ROGUES) worked hard in there off time to get certified and get equipment on board to refill diving tanks. After- words that got to enjoy some wonderful diving places as we traveled around the world. Please come back and visit again!

The history of the patch is that we wanted something special to identify us as divers. Our patch we chose to start with the international diving flag. Add the sea horse from ship and squadron history. Add appropriate diver, wetsuit and air lung. Combine with trident spear. Throw in a shark and a dolphin for luck. Last, our first Rule #1, NEVER DIVE ALONE. I don't remember who actually came up and put it all together, but I remember talking about it with a couple of the other engineers that dive. We were all excited to get our patch. I can remember running into a Sonar Tech in Japan that had just come off the Dewey in 72 or 73. I asked him about the Dewey Sea Rogues and he did not no what I was talking about. How disappointing I guess between decommissioning and re-commissioning the club was actually disbanded. If you were a member of the SEA ROGUES, DEWEY diving club lets hear from you. Do you remember who actually put the patch together? Is there any thing I'm missing?

One shipmate writes the sea rogues was our radio call sign. Possibly there was a radioman involved in designing the patch. The person that got the club together was a torpedo man or an asroc missile man. His name escapes me.

If you were a member of the Sea Rouges diving club you are part of a small group 1967 to 1969. I ran into the USS Dewey on West Pac 1971 and questioned them about the diving club. Seems it ceased to exist when the Dewey was decommissioned for overhaul in 1970. Unless they researched an started it again after talking with them.
