Lexicons and Emoticons

Lexicons are 'contractions' often found in chat rooms and forums. They not only save time, but they also save space. 'LOL' (Laughing Out Loud) is a very common lexicon.

Emoticons are textual 'pictures'. The very popular Smiley Face :-) is an emoticon.

Actions are enclosed in asterisks (stars) and indicate an 'action' rather than a 'comment'. Virtually any action can go in there: *Wacking myself on the forehead* or *spewing coffee all over the keyboard*

What does everyone see in emoticons? If you just see them as a set of keyboard characters, you're not viewing them at the right angle. If you were to print out the emoticons and turn the page on its side in a clock-wise direction, you will see emoticons as smiley faces and expressions. You can also view them by tilting your head to the left while viewing them on the monitor. Or, you could set your monitor on its right side, but we don't recommend that :-)
