The Zelda Storylines |
|---|
| Legend of Zelda - 1987 |
|---|
| In the land of Hyrule, a long time ago, the Prince of Darkness,
Ganon, raids the land and steals the Triforce of Power. Zelda, who
fears the evil Ganon, splits the Triforce of Wisdom into 8 pieces,
and scatters them across Hyrule. Zelda sends Impa, her watcher,
to find a warrior who has the ability to defeat Ganon and get the
Triforce of Power back. Ganon gets word of this and sends a search
party to find and kill Impa. Just when she is about to be mortally
wounded, Link appears, and saves her. Impa knows this is the one
for the task, and sends him on is journey. |

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link - 1988 |
|---|
| Several years after the first Legend of Zelda, an evil
magician interrogates Princess Zelda about the Triforce. She
refuses to release any information, and the magician casts a
powerful sleeping spell on the princess. However, the magician
also falls to the ground, dead. Our hero, Link, meanwhile notices
a strange marking on his hand. Impa, Zelda's watcher, tells him
he is the one who can break the spell set on Zelda. To do so, he
must place 6 crystals in the foreheads of statues that are in 6
palaces in the land of Hyrule. If he does this, he will open the
path to the Great Palace, where the Triforce of Courage lies. This
is the key to breaking the spell. In the meantime, Ganon's minions
are attempting to revive him (he's dead, remember?). The only way
they can do this is to sacrifice his killer and sprinkle his blood
on the ashes of Ganon...

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - 1992 |
|---|
| This story takes place about 100 years before the first two
legends (maybe they have different life-spans, they aren't human!
Or possibly they are two different Links!)
While Link is asleep in his home during a thunderstorm, Link hears
Princess Zelda call to him in his dreams, pleading to him to come
rescue her. He wakes up and finds his uncle getting ready for a
battle. Before Link's uncle leaves, his uncle tells Link to stay
home. Wasting no time, Link leaves. He heads to Hyrule Castle
to find Princess Zelda. After saving her, and finding his uncle dead,
he learns of an evil wizard, Agahnim. Agahnnim, who is seeking to
unlock the Golden Land (where the Triforce is), has kidnapped 7
maidens who are descendants of 7 wise men. These 7 wise men had
sealed the Golden Land ages ago...
|
| The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - 1993 |
|---|
The story of Link's Awakening also takes place about 100 years
ago. After Ganon's defeat in the previous quest, Hyrule was once again
peaceful. Link decides to take a boat to an unknown place in order to
find enlightenment. However, the boat's return trip proves disastrous
as it gets caught in a storm and is shattered. Link finds himself on an
island named Koholint. Koholint has a giant egg on the central mountain
of the island. An owl tells Link the only way to get home is to wake the
Wind Fish, which sleeps in the egg. Thus, his adventure begins.
| Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - 1998 |
|---|
| Traveling further back in time, we find our hero before all the other
quests, as a 10 year old boy. Navi, his faery, is sent by the Deku Tree
to find Link and bring him to the Deku Tree. At the Deku Tree, Link is
taught by the tree many things, including that he must stop the evil "Gerudo in Black Armour". He sets forth into the immene world of Hyrule, unable to even contemplate what lay before him. |
