Packing
Topic: Apartment
The good news is that that I'm out of boxes. The bad news is that I feel there is still so much more to pack.

Man, have I acquired a lot of shit. I'm such a packrat. Am I wrong to keep things that were given to me as gifts?

I just finished box #15. In my defense at least 4 of the boxes I've packed have been kitchen stuff. And one box was just tiny ass. I just also need to remember that when I moved in 3 years ago, it took my car and my mom's to move everything up. And I have been throwing stuff away or will be donating it or attempting to sell it (stuff for sale, hinthint).

So I figure probably about 5 more boxes plus London which probably constitutes, I dunno, 5 more boxes and my entire life can be summed up into 40 reasonable sized boxes. About 10 of which is just memories...Boy am I a packrat.

Valencia's Notifications
Now Playing: "Mixed Up World" by Sophie Ellis Bextor on "NoAlbum"
Topic: Apartment
While I was downstairs talking with Kathryn and Julie, I glanced outside and see that across the street there's a guy with a bucket. He looked like a painter. I shift my view and see that he is a painter and he appeared to be painting some random spots. Kathryn thinks it's a primer which is probably right since he was only painting over the grey areas that were bad. But as we're watching this, we see another guy go around and put little notices on everyone's doors. He then comes across the street and starts doing ours. We pick ours up as soon as he went by. It was a notice that Valencia had hired someone to repaint the entire complex and to make sure th front side windows and doors were closed between certain hours. They said they would be painting Tuesday May 31 to Friday June 3. All the while we can see from our window a guy painting today.

(Hahaha, just detected the music. It's an appropriate title ;-) )

Roommate Aftermath
Now Playing: "Bones and Joint" by Finger 11 on "NoAlbum"
Topic: Apartment
When I went down for dinner, I was surprised to find that Kathryn had done her dishes despite us not being out of silverware. It wasn't until I went back down for my meds that I saw that she had also straightened up the shelves. That's when I figured out why: she had company. Like 3 of her friends came over and they watched a movie. I wonder if she would have done any of the counter cleaning had I not done it last night. Or perhaps if she would have had company at all had I not done it. But at least the shelves got straightened up.

Julie gave me Hershey's Swoops as part of an apologizing for not doing any cleaning and for not cleaning out old food from the fridge and for not fully cleaning the Forman grill. I pretty much forgave her for the grill and tried to shrug off the fridge thing but also made a point. She said she forgot about it or whatever and I said well the fridge does get crowded so it's hard to see everything that's in there.

Unbelievable
Mood:  irritated

Topic: Apartment
When I came upstairs, Kathryn was cleaning the mold filled fruit salad bowl. I figured she would have done the rest of her dishes while she was there. I just went down to do my own dishes since the sink had been occupied earlier. The only thing she washed was the bowl. Unbeliveable.

Also while I was downstairs, Julie came home. I didn't say anything about the food I placed in front of her door figuring that she would come downstairs and ask. Nope. When I came back up, she merely just pushed the containers aside.

*sigh* I am SO living by myself when I settle down.

What's wrong with that picture? The second comment Kathryn said when she came in and saw me cleaning. I just said "yeah." When she saw me working on the fridge she said she knew that her fruit salad and her meatloaf could go and that she would take of them. I took her up on that. Neither dish was more than half gone. Granted, the fruit salad was leftovers from a party...over 2 weeks ago. When we pulled the tin foil off of that mostly all you could see was white mold at least half an inch tall. EWWWWW! That's when she said something along the lines of "don't worry, mold is my speciality" or something like that. So she dumps the fruit and starts to wash. This is coming from the girl who insisted that all of dishes be sanitized in bleach when we changed apartments because the rats might have gotten into that cupboard (for the record, I don't think they did).

I also had her go through the apples because I couldn't tell if any of them were bad. Unfortunately, all of them were good but at least I made her realize that yes, we have a shitload of apples and that she shouldn't buy any more. That is, after the 2 she bought sometime this week. *palmforehead* I also had her go through the oranges which were, unfortunately, all good. So our crisper drawer (or whatever you want to call it) that runs the width of the fridge has a third of it taken up by apples, another third by oranges and the rest by misc veggies. I also had the pleasure of throwing out a lot of meat that had sell by dates at least 10 days old. I might add that half of this meat had never even been opened. *eye roll* I understand implusive buying. I do. I do it all the time. But I usually at least start eating what I buy that day. Not leave in the fridge for 2 weeks.

There were also two containers of leftovers that were Julie's. I'm not sure what one of them was but it sure as hell didn't look appetizing. The other was some chicken that has been sitting in a container for at least the past 2 weeks if not a month. I took both containers and put them in front of Julie's room. No way she can miss that. I also left a note on top of the Forman grill asking yet again that it be cleaned after being used and that the grease underneath be wiped off as well. It took 9 months but I'm finally getting agressive about the food spoiling. I'm tempted to go through the boxes on the shelves and all the stuff in the cupboards but that kind of stuff tends to last longer by default. But I should go through some it. Who knows, *I* might have something up there that has expired and just didn't know it because I can't see it.

But I really am sick and tired of being the only one consistantly cleaning anything. Sure, they clean their own rooms but it took me having guests over for dinner for Kathryn to clean her bathroom. And she does wipe up a little when she has raw chicken on the counter but that's it. Neither of them has ever cleaned the counters thoroughly, vacuumed (too much work to move it but not too much work to sweep the carpet *eye roll*) the living room, sweeped or washed the kitchen floor or scrubbed the shower. It makes me wonder what their limit point is. I mean how long/ how bad it has to get before they do anything about it. For me it's about two weeks and that's only because I can only really deal with it on the weekends. But I mean, how could they not notice that the kitchen floor was filthy? I mean, my shoes were sticking to the floor. There was peachish color stain on the counter. I mean, really, how does this not bother them? It drives me crazy but I try to let it go so they can clean it up but then my limit point is reached and I cave.

At least in a couple of weeks Julie will be moving out and it will just be me and Kathryn. So at least the amount of food in the fridge will grow at a lesser rate. It's too bad Kathryn is staying...I was so looking forward to having the apartment to myself. Hopefully my roommates in London won't be as bad. Although there we'll actually be sharing rooms. I made it through a year with Katie, and I'm making it through this year so 15 weeks should be no sweat right?

Well, I can no longer say never

I went to put my watch on the bathroom counter and noticed something different. Julie's side was clean. Not all of it, just her half of the middle section. It was clean. I hadn't cleaned it. Which means she must have. I was wondering what she was doing for soo long in the bathroom last night. So now it's been once. Once that I've seen evidence of either roommate take any sort of cleaning product to any surface that didn't just have raw chicken on it.

Well, shit
Topic: Apartment
1. I somehow managed to misplace of one my picture CDs when moving apartments last month. Which sucks cause I didn't copy them onto my harddrive first. I just can't believe I lost it. I also just realized I lost the index print too. Makes me wonder if I still have the negatives. I won't know because I can't compare the numbers. Thankfully I put the pictures in an album.

2. I found out today that Kathryn got an extension on her lease to go through summer while she looked for a job. And I was so looking forward to having the place to myself over the summer. Where I wouldn't have to worry if there was a clean spoon or fork for me to use. Currently our sink is full with every knife, fork and spoon sans one spoon and one baby fork as those were the ones I used and therefore they got washed. Kathryn leaves tomorrow for Costa Rica and I doubt she'll wash her dishes before she goes. I'm not going to wash them again for her. I did the half she left before winter break. I did all of the ones she left in the sink at the old place. She has to do them herself all the way down to the bottom so she can see how disgusting it is to leave dirty dishes there for over a month. She's created her own vicious cycle: she doesn't like to dishes by hand and yet the longer they stay there, the harder it is to get the crud off. And I am still the only one to really take any cleaning product to the kitchen. If they have ever done it, it's not noticible. I'm the one who cleans most often and that is still a terrifying thought. So is the fact that only one of them?the better in terms of cleaness?is moving out for summer.

[Julie] No. An hour later.

I caved
Topic: Apartment
Alright, who bet that the internet-free-at-home lifestyle would only last a week? Well, you won.

Having to walk across the street in the rain just to check my e-mail is just a little much. Not being able to print useful information without first bringing paper over to the lab sucks. And lying on the floor because you really really don't want to do school work and have no other alternatives to procrastination, sucks.

And going back to dial-up would suck. With DSL not an option, I looked at Cal Poly's deals with internet providers and decided they were more or just as much money as Charter. So I was browsing around Charter's website and saw that they're having an online promotion thingy of just $20/month with free modem lease for 3 months (before tax of course). Considering that I would only need the service for about 6 months, and that SBC was charging me like $26/month, this sounded like a good deal so I went ahead and signed up. So it will probably be another week before it's up and running since I'm not really available during the day.

Anyway, since I'll be playing some role playing game with Nick tomorrow, time to go home and actually get some work done. Suck. (That seems to be the word of the day today doesn't it?).

Move Update
Now Playing: Valencia Computer Lab noises
Topic: Apartment
The move into the new apartment is complete. I went back earlier today to pick up the last of things I own. I can now say that everything I own is in the new apartment, dirty dishes and all.

The maintanence people fixed our rat-sized hole in the outside vent, fixed the living room light and fixed the sink. They also moved Kathryn's shelves over. I spent some time today putting things around and moving things around and made the place much more presentable. No where near ready for people though. We still have a bunch of dishes to sanitize, including all of our forks and knives, which are currently sitting in a bleach bath.

Today I also put in some more change of address things. I did it with the post office, my credit card, my checking account and the newspaper. Since I still didn't have phone service when I got home, I called SBC about it.

Fifty-three minutes and 6 people later, I cancelled my DSL, increased what I pay for long distance and transferred my phone service for a fee of $33.01 with the service effective tomorrow. Fortunately, I'm not being charged the early cancellation fee for the DSL since the problem is on their end. Despite being no more than fifty feet away from my previous location, DSL is not available in my apartment. Anyone want an SBC DSL modem? So for now, I'm using work and Valencia's computer lab (where I am now) to do internet stuff. I'll figure out what I'm going to do about it later.

I also transferred my TV service. That was a lot easier. (Goodness, this keyboard is noisy!) It only took about 7 minutes and no transfer fee. The catch on that is that, due to my schedule, the guy can't come out til Saturday. No Law & Order for me this week =(.

Anthropology test tomorrow. I should probably start studying for that again.
