Chapter Three

During the night, I had a great dream about her. We were in the living room, in front of a roaring fire just staring into the flames. I turned my head to look at her only to see that she was staring at me. We both leaned in to kiss and just before our lips touched, I woke up. I was so disappointed. Why is it that when a dream gets to the good part, you wake up? Anyway, I turned my head to look at Emily only to see that she wasn’t there. I groggily got up and went to the kitchen. There she was standing behind the counter. When she saw me, she gave me a big smile.

“Hey there, Sleeping Beauty.”, she said.

“Hey.”

“I’m making breakfast. Hope you don’t mind PB&J.”

“No, that’s okay.”

She handed me a sandwich and I began eating.

“How’d you sleep?”, she asked.

“Fine, thanks. That bed is very comfortable.”

“Yeah. Listen, sorry I woke you up.”

“Don’t worry about it. You can’t control how you dream.”

“I know, but I still feel I have to apologize. For everything.”

“Everything? What else?”

“For assaulting you with a mug and starting the avalanche.”

“The mug thing only happened because you were upset and that avalanche could have happened at any moment.”

“Thank you. You are being really sweet about all this.”

“Well I figure if we are going to be stuck in this cabin for the next couple of days, we’d be better off as friends than fighting.”

“Exactly.”

“So, still can’t remember that dream?”

“Yup. It’s all a blur. The fact is, I don’t want to remember. If it was so scary that I was screaming, it’s best forgotten.”

“ That’s cool. I guess you’re right. Say, by the way, what kind of perfume were you were wearing?”

“It’s called ‘Sunshine’. It’s from Charlie. Does it bother you?”

“No, I really like it. It smells nice on you.”

“Thanks.”

There was an awkward pause. I felt kind of nervous around him. He was just being so sweet and understanding and he was really cute which was a plus. I was really beginning to like him. I think he likes me too. I remembered how he nuzzled my neck last night before falling asleep. If this were any other guy, I would have gotten really mad and kicked him out, but this wasn’t any other guy. He was Nick. One of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. Whenever he touched me, every cell in my body would quiver. Even now, under his blue-eyed stare, I could feel myself tremble slightly. I wanted him to caress me. I wanted him to run his hands all over my body as if molding me. At the same time, I wanted to feel his skin on my fingertips. As much as I wanted it though, I couldn’t tell him. I was not about to get into a relationship again. Although, who said it have to turn into a relationship? Why can’t I just have some fun?
