“Oh my God!! What happened?”, I asked.
“I believe this is called an avalanche.”, he said, sarcastically.
“Ha, ha, ha.”, I said.
“Well you asked.”
“Never mind that. What do we do now?”
“I don’t know. Why don’t I check the electricity while you see if we have enough food? We might be here awhile.”
“Oh yay. I’m snowbound in a romantic cabin with someone who makes me want to draw blood. And I’m not talking about mine.”
“Calm down…uh…uh..”
“Emily. Emily Sanders.”
“I’m Nick Carter.”
“Now that we’re over the formalities, let’s do what we have to do, shall we?”
“O.K.”
Fifteen minutes later, I had gone all over the house looking for food. It turns out we have enough food in here for at least a month which is probably how long we’re going to be stuck here. I went back into the living room where, 5 minutes later, Nick came in.
“I went to the cellar to check the fuses. They’re fine but the power line must have been knocked down by the avalanche.”, he said.
“That’s what I figured so I looked for some candles. Here, help me light them.”
“O.K.”
The cabin was soon filled with a warm inviting glow. We even got a fire in the fireplace started. The place looked very homey. I flopped down on the sofa and took off my jacket and shoes. Nick sat down next to me.
“You know, this place looks very romantic in the candle’s glow.”, he said.
“Yes. Yes it does.”
“Why do you always have to be so uptight?”
“Gee, let me think. I come up here hoping to have a nice, relaxing weekend. Then I find out that my reservations got lost so they had to put me in this cabin. That alone wouldn’t have been so bad except that I get put with the most obnoxious person I’ve ever met. Then an enormous amount of snow falls on the cabin, causing me to be stuck here with you! All in all it’s been a bad day, so excuse me if I’m so uptight.”
“Wait, obnoxious?! I am not obnoxious!”
“Yes you are! You thought just because we’re stuck together, we have to sleep together!”
“What are you talking about? I wasn’t insinuating that we have to have sex or anything like that.”
“Then what are you insinuating?”
“There’s only one bed. I thought we would share it. I sleep on top of the covers and you sleep under them. That’s not so bad, right?”
“I’m sorry. I just got out of a really bad relationship so I’m kind of jumpy about men.”
“Kind of?”, he asked, cocking an eyebrow.
“O.K., O.K., really jumpy.”
“Listen, if it makes you uncomfortable, I could sleep here on the couch and you can take the bed.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“In that case, I’m going to turn in early. Good night.”
“Good night.”
Emily got up and walked to the bedroom, leaving Nick in the living room. Nick suddenly got the feeling that he just got tricked.
