Chapter Fifteen

The week following that night was like a nightmare for both Annette and Nick. Annette stopped going to art class. She completely submerged herself in her world of thought. She remembered how her parents disowned her when they found out she dropped out. She thought about the wonderful times she had with her aunt and how heart-broken she was when she died. What she also thought about was how lonely she was the year following. Most of all, she thought about how happy she was with Nick. How stupid can she be? Why did she tell him that she didn’t love him? She gets angry every time she thought about it. She couldn’t believe dumb she can be. She was so preoccupied, she even stopped having her beach dream. Life was dull again.

With Nick, it was just as bad. He barely paid attention during rehearsal. It had gotten so bad, the guys were getting really annoyed and impatient.

“Nick, we’re really sick of having you in a dream world.” Brian said.

“Sorry. I’ll do better.” He said sadly.

“What’s troubling you? Is it Annette?”

“Yeah. I just—I can’t believe after all that, she couldn’t return my feelings.”

“That’s bull. I remember watching her while she was with you. The look in her eyes said it all. She loves you, she just doesn’t want to get hurt in the end.”

“I would never hurt her though.” Nick rose to the defense.

“Look, all I’m saying is if you love her and I know she love you, why don’t you go after her?” Brian smiled at the good point he made.

“You know you’re right. I will.” Nick then got up and left.
