Chapter 24
Jayme sank into her bed and closed her eyes wishing she could erase what she had just seen, she had been on her way to talk to Nick and had seen him kissing Lindsay good-bye as she left to go home.
She remembered bits and pieces of what Kevin had said to her only two nights ago. He had told her to admit to Nick that she loved him, and now she was so confused she didn't know what to think. Was it possible for her to love Nick? Could he love her? Kevin seemed sure he did but she had her doubts. He was with Lindsay, he seemed to love her. Kevin had to be wrong. He just had to be.
She glanced at her clock as she rolled over on the bed yawning, she so badly wanted to sleep, it was the only time she didn't think about Nick. She dreamt about him but she didn't have to feel pain until she woke up. It was comforting. For a few hours she didn't have to hurt, she didn't have to feel empty......
But she couldn't sleep, not now, she had to go to the arena, do sound check, rehearse moves, see Nick. That was the hardest part, seeing Nick. It hurt far too much. But after tomorrow she wouldn't have to see him, she would be leaving for Los Angeles to film her new video. New York would be her last show with The Backstreet Boys.
Could she leave that easily, just hug them good bye and leave? She would have to, she knew that, but could she really go on without talking to them or seeing them again? Could she manage? She didn't have anyone else. Tears formed in her eyes as she thought about the loneliness she felt and just the thought of what it would be like, she was alone now of course but nothing like she would be.
She jumped at the sound of the phone ringing and answered with a sleepy, "Hello?"
"Hey. It's me Kevin."
"Hey."
"How are you. Have you thought about our talk?"
"I'm fine. And yes that's all I've thought about."
"Good."
"Good?"
"You must be realizing you love him."
Jayme didn't say anything she just furiously wiped the tears as they rolled down her cheeks.
"You there?"
"Yes," She squeaked.
"Jayme?"
"I'm fine, just a little emotional."
"I didn't mean to cause you any pain, I just wanted you to realize how you feel."
"I have Kevin, I have."
"Really?" Kevin's smile was evident through the phone.
"Yes, but I can't tell him. I can't do anything."
"Why not?"
"Because he loves Lindsay."
"Jayme I told you the other night, he does not love her."
"Yes, he does, I can see it when he looks at her."
"You obviously have not been in love before because then you'd know what to look for, I know Nick, better than anyone I've NEVER seen him act the way he does when he's with you."
"God Kevin, you always make the girls cry huh?"
"Only good tears, tears of joy. Always."
"I don't know what to do."
"Tell him."
"Maybe Kevin. Maybe I will"
"No. Don't say maybe. If you wait to long you may lose him and never find true love again."

The next morning AJ woke up a little earlier than usual, they had partied a little the night before after the concert but that was nothing compared to the party that was going to be thrown tonight. Last night on tour was always wild. And AJ knew he'd regret waking up early but he needed to talk to someone badly.
He dialed the number on his cell while throwing a few items into his suitcase as he held the phone between his ear and shoulder.
After four rings she answered. "Hello."
"Lindsay?"
"Yeah."
"It's AJ."
"Oh hey."
"What's up?"
"Not too much. I'm still trying to get another dancing job. Working part time at a local restaurant for the time being."
"I'm sorry everything worked out this way."
"Me too."
"How are things with you and Nick?"
"Over."
AJ stopped packing and stood up looking out the window, "what?"
"He broke up with me, over the phone he waited until I got home and called me to tell me it was over."
"I'm sorry."
"It's for the best, all the attention I was getting clouded my mind. I really thought I was beginning to care about him. Though maybe I was falling in love with him, that I could have been with him. But I don't love him, Jayme does."
"You mean your over him."
"Over a crush, yeah."
"I'm still so sorry, about everything."
"Like I said, don't worry about it. How are things there?"
"Good, tour ends tomorrow night. Jayme released her album and I think after a little chat Kevin had with Jayme he got through to her, you should see the way she looks at Nick now."
"One TALK! He talks to her and gets through to her and we pull every scheme possible and get nowhere."
"I know what can I say life sucks."
"Seriously."
"Well, I have to go, last night on tour is crazy."
"Okay, good luck, bye."
*******************************
"Well, for our last night on tour we wanna make sure that everyone has a great time." Nick yelled into his microphone as thousands of girl screamed his name.
It had been a good night, crazy but fun. The fans were out of control and no one couldn't wait for the party that was to follow the concert.
"Yeah so for this last song we want everyone to sing along and scream as loud as you can." AJ stepped in.
"And don't forget to dance." Howie mentioned.
"And we definitely wanna thank all you fans out there for a wonderful tour, and Jayme for being such a great opening act." Kevin said grabbing fans hands as he talked.
"We love you guys." Nick hollered.
Nick danced as he never had before on stage. He wanted to give it his all, make sure the fans knew how thankful he was to them. He was nothing without them, Backstreet Boys were nothing without them. And he felt so much better that he and Lindsay had broken things off, he didn't like being with her when his heart belong elsewhere. It had taken something deep inside, and something Lindsay had said to him when he told her it was over for him to realize what an idiot he had been, she had told him......
"I knew this was coming. We don't have the kind of love that lasts forever I only hope when I find that kind of love that I don't let it slip away."
And that's all it took for Nick to come to his senses and realize where his true feelings were.
He wouldn't let true love slip away, he wouldn't let himself be lost in a world where he didn't know himself. He wouldn't let that happened any longer. He continued singing, grabbing hands as he moved along stage smiling widely. He was madly in love and it felt damn good. And she had to love him back, that's all there was to it, he knew he couldn't live without her and God wouldn't be cruel enough to do that to him.
The end of the song neared and Nick caught a glimpse backstage and saw Jayme and her dancers watching them closely. Jayme's eyes were stuck on him and he almost cried at the look in her eyes, that had to have been love. He had never seen anything like it before and he fought the urge to run to her.
Because as much as he had denied it, the past few months on tour with her had been enough for him to fall in love with her. He was in love with Jayme and fully intended on spending the rest of his life with her.
Suddenly the music ended for the last song the guys would perform on The Backstreet Boys 2001 Black and Blue tour.
