(August 21, 2001)
One year ago it all started. Katlyn moved out to Orlando over a year ago. Now, she was celebrating her one year anniversary with Justin. One year!
A lot of changes have happened in one year. Katlyn, now nineteen years old, was getting ready to start college at University of Central Florida in September. Katlyn also joined Justin and the other guys for their latest tour, “Pop Odyssey”. Justin, now twenty, shaved his head months ago and added to his tattoo collection; both Katlyn hated but eventually got over or at least got use to.
In a couple weeks, Jennifer, Laura, and Jackie will be joining her at college. Katlyn and Jackie wanted to go into fashion, Jennifer wanted to go into journalism, and Laura wanted to go into photography. Jennifer and Laura will be flying out to Orlando in a week. The four of them planned on all sharing a dorm on campus.
“I can’t believe I have to spend my one year anniversary on a bus, somewhere between Ohio and Louisiana.” Katlyn pouted.
Justin grabbed her around the waist and pulled her down on his lap. “Angel, you’re making me nervous with all the pacing you’re doing.”
Katlyn tried to push off of him, but he was holding her too tight. “I can’t believe I haven’t gone insane from being your girlfriend for a year!”
“But you still manage to love me.” Justin laughed finally releasing her.
“That’s what scares me.” Katlyn said not moving off of his lap.
“I love you too, Kate.”
“So, what are you two lovebirds going to do on your special day?” JC asked walking into the front of the bus.
“Sit on a bus.” Katlyn pouted again.
Justin laughed again and pulled her against his chest. “Isn’t she in a great mode?”
JC sat across from them laughing. “Don’t worry, Kate. Justin probably has something planned. He won’t let you spend your one year anniversary on a bus all day.”
“Maybe we’ll stop at McDonald’s!” Katlyn said sarcastically.
“Who told you?” Justin laughed jokingly. Katlyn elbowed him. “Oww!”
JC laughed at them. “You two are perfect for each other.”
At six o’clock, the busses pulled up in front of the hotel. Johnny and Chris got on the bus before the group left.
“Ok...Joey and Lance are sharing a room, JC and Justin are sharing a room, and Chris, you get your own.” Johnny explained.
“We have to share rooms?!” JC yelled.
“I get my own room!” Chris sang dancing around the bus.
“Ok, you have the rest of the day to yourselves.” Johnny said getting off the bus.
“Katlyn! Come on!” Jackie said running on the bus grabbing Katlyn’s hand and dragging her behind.
“Ok, that was taken care of.” Justin said walking into the back of the bus.
“Jackie? Can we slow down?” Katlyn asked as they ran to the door.
“Katlyn?!?” Fans started screaming from the front of the hotel. Flashes started going off from every direction.
“Ladies? I can’t let you in with out a pass.” A guard stopped them.
Katlyn and Jackie both looked up at him like he was crazy.
“Um...were with the band.” Katlyn finally said.
“Passes?” He asked giving them a strange look.
“I don’t have mine. It’s on the bus with all my stuff...can’t you just ask them? They know who I am.” Katlyn asked referring to the fans.
“I’m sorry. I need a pass.”
“I’m Justin Timberlake’s girlfriend! Chris Hart’s daughter!”
“Any proof?”
Katlyn sighed and took a deep breath. “I just said I left my stuff on the bus on the other side of the building.”
All of a sudden there was a bunch of screaming and JC was standing next to them. “They’re with us.”
The guard apologized and let them in.
“Thanks JC.” Katlyn said giving him a quick hug before Jackie pulled her away and dragged her upstairs.
“Why are you in such a hurry?”
“I don’t know. I just felt like running.” Jackie said bursting into their room.
Katlyn tried to catch her breath. “You’re weird.”
“Yeah, well...”
They talked for an hour and a half and then there was a knock on the door. Katlyn got up to get it. No one was there.
“Uh...hello?” She asked somewhat nervous. She looked down and noticed a rose. “What the...” She looked down the hall and saw another rose. She walked over to it and picked it up. There seemed to be a rose every ten feet, so she kept following them with a smile on her face. One was placed by a open door. She walked in to find the room empty. “Hello? Is anyone here?” She looked around the room and found a dress hanging up with a note next to it. She picked up the note and read it.
Hey Katlyn!
Happy one year anniversary! JC told you I would have something planned, I wouldn’t make you spend our one year on a bus and in a hotel. So, put on this dress and be down in the lobby at eight o’clock.

Katlyn put down the note and picked up the dress. Twenty minutes later she was changed and fixing her hair along with her makeup.
She took the elevator down to the lobby and waited in the middle by a fountain. She looked at the clock to see what time it was. Seven fifty-eight.
Katlyn sat up when she heard footsteps behind her and soon sat next to her. She looked up to see Justin staring at her. She smiled at the sight of him. He was wearing a black suit with a white dress shirt.
“I believe we have a date.” Justin said handing her a single red rose.
Katlyn smiled. “Yes we do.”
Justin stood up and stuck out his arm for her to loop her arm through. “Then lets go.”
Katlyn was shocked to see that there were no fans waiting outside, but instead there was a limo parked waiting for them. Justin let her slide in first, then he slide in behind her. The limo had roses all over it.
“What are you up to, Timberlake?”
“Doing something special for my girl.” Justin smiled and put his arm around her waist pulling her closer.
“You can’t keep out doing yourself...soon there will be nothing for you to do.”
“I’ll always find something special for you.”
Minutes later they pulled up at a fancy Italian restaurant. Justin helped her out and escorted her to the inside.
“Timberlake for two.” Justin said once inside.
The waiter took them to their table.
“So, is this ok?” Justin asked after they were both seated.
Katlyn looked around and smiled at him. “Yeah...it’s great.”
Justin reached across the table and took her hand in his. “I love you.”
Katlyn smile at him again and squeezed his hand. “I love you too, J.”
The ordered their food and ate softly talking. When they were done, Justin spoke up first.
“When do you want your gift?”
“Later. That way I can give you yours.”
Justin stood up. “Well lets get going then.”
Katlyn stood up and walked out with Justin after he paid. They were soon pulled up in front of the hotel again. Justin helped Katlyn out and started walking up to their rooms.
“So how did you get rid of JC?” Katlyn asked in his room.
“It wasn’t that hard. I just told him I was going to have you up here for awhile.”
Katlyn wrapped her arms around his neck. “Really? And he didn’t give you a lecture?”
“How long have you known JC? Of course he gave me a lecture.” Justin laughed.
Katlyn kissed him quickly and sat on the bed. “So, where’s my gift?”
“Anxious are we?” Justin smiled and pulled out a small box.
Katlyn reached out to grab it but Justin pulled it back. Katlyn pouted.
“Can I have a kiss first?” Justin smiled sweetly and leaned forward.
Katlyn leaned down and kissed him. “Can I have my present now?”
“I didn’t like that one...I want another one.”
Katlyn sighed and leaned forward wrapping her arms around his neck. “Then I get my present?” She smiled when he nodded his head. She leaned forward and planted her lips on his. Justin wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer. The kiss deepened and Katlyn leaned in more causing him to fall on the bed. Minutes later she pulled away. “Was that ok?”
“No.” He pulled her back down.
Katlyn lightly laughed and sat up. “Too bad...now give me my present!”
Justin sat up and sighed. “Fine.” He handed her the box.
Katlyn ripped open the wrapping and opened the box. She pulled out a key ring with some keys on it. “Um...I don’t get it.”
“Well, the gifts at home waiting for you. But I thought I should give you something.”
Katlyn smiled wider. “You got me a car?”
“Not just any car...a Mercedes convertible.”
“Why?”
“Since you’re starting college, I thought you would like to have a car to drive around.”
Katlyn hugged him tightly. “Now my present is going to look stupid.”
“You didn’t even have to get me a present. I have you, that’s the only present I need.”
Katlyn kissed his cheek and got up. “Let me go get your present.” She ran out of the room to get it.
Minutes later she walked back in. “Ready?”
“Yep!”
Katlyn walked the rest of the way in with a golden retriever puppy. Justin smiled looking at it.
“Kate, it’s adorable.” Justin took the puppy out of her arms and held it. He noticed the baby blue collar that said Katlyn loves Justin in rhinestones.
“Her name is Angel.”
“Thank you, Katlyn.” Justin said putting down the puppy and kissing her.
They curled up on his bed with the puppy and talked.
‘I could never live without this.’ Katlyn thought looking at Justin.
