Katlyn and Justin were barely able to see each other. Every once in a while, Katlyn would sneak out, but other then that, all they did was talk on the phone.
“Do you think you can sneak out again?” Justin asked.
“I don’t think so. My mom is sitting downstairs.”
“Well, I can pull up, and when you see my car, you can say you’re going for a walk.”
Katlyn thought about it. “We can try.”
“Ok, I’ll be there in ten minutes.” Justin said hanging up.
Katlyn walked down to the living room and sat by the window looking out every few minutes.
“Is everything ok?” Her mom asked from the couch.
“Yeah. Why do you ask?” Katlyn said nervously.
“You look a little....jumpy.”
“Jumpy?...” She noticed Justin pull up. “I think I’m gonna go for a walk.”
“Katlyn?” Her mother asked as she reached the door.
“Katlyn’s face scrunched up as she turned around. “Yeah?”
“Where are you going?” Tracey asked getting up.
“I just told you...on a walk.”
“No. Where are you really going?” Tracey asked now standing next to Katlyn.
“To...for...for a walk.” Katlyn stuttered nervously.
Tracey looked outside and saw Justin sitting in his car. She waved him in. She turned to Katlyn. “A walk, huh?” She smiled knowingly.
Katlyn was sweating. “Um...I can explain.”
Justin walked to the door nervously.
“Explain what? That you were lying to me?...You two come here, we have to talk.”
The three sat on the couches.
“Mrs. Hart, I just want to say I’m sorry that we’ve been sneaking around without your permission, but I love your daughter. My mom told me she talked to you...I would never hurt Katlyn.” Justin said truthfully.
Tracey smiled warmly. “I know.”
Katlyn looked up shocked. “Um...mom?”
“I’m serious. I know you both love each other.” She took a deep breath. “One week ago, a wise woman gave me some advice. She told me that I have to let you go.” She turned to Justin. “I’m sorry for putting you through this. You probably think I’m insane. Just...don’t hurt her, or I’ll come after you.” She smiled at the two. “Now no more sneaking around. Go have some fun.”
Justin smiled. “Thank you, Mrs. Hart. And just so you know, I love your daughter. I would never hurt her.”
“Call me Tracey, none of this Mrs. Hart stuff.”
Justin smiled again. “You got it, Tracey.”
“Thanks mom.” Katlyn hugged her mom.
“Now go you two!” Tracey said pushing them out of the house together.
Tracey watched as they got in Justin’s car and wave as they drove away. A tear rolled down her cheek as she smiled.
