Excerpts of an article from The Daily Universe on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999 by Shawn Hammond

Caffeine Kid is a four piece emo/punk band that features a drummer, a bassist and two guitarists who share vocal duties. Although I'm admittedly not a punk guru, Caffeine Kid sounds to me like a cross between Green Day, No Doubt and IRON MAIDEN. It's their power chord-driven thrashing and energetic vocal sneers that bring to mind Green Day. Their pop-tinged guitar sprinklings and harmonized twin guitar leads are what hearken to No Doubt and IRON MAIDEN.

The biggest strength of these Jolt-swiggin' boys from Caffeine Kid is their conviction and their innovation. Clever application of sound effects to guitars and vocals, tempo changes that act as a refreshing change of "scenery" and stylistic nods to different genres are clear indication of the verve and inventiveness of its No-Doz-napping members.

In a nutshell, Caffeine Kid strikes a great balance between the creativity that engages a crowd and the raucous abandon that the punk moniker demands. They know when to go berserk in sonic sloppiness and when to clean it up and be tasty. Nice going, Mountain Dew Mongers.

To Caffeine Kid I say, keep it up kids.

To fans of engaging and fresh emo/punk music I say, check out Caffeine Kid's next show.
