About half and hour later, when Leigh went into the living room, Nick was still sitting there, staring off into space.
"Hey baby." Leigh said sitting down next to him.
"Hey." Nick replied dully.
Leigh looked at the fire, then back at Nick.
"You okay?" she asked.
"Fine." he said as he got up to get a drink.
"You want to talk?" she asked.
Nick didn't say anything back to her.
"Did I do something Nick?" she asked, confused by his behavior.
"No." he replied monotone and spacey, like he was in deep thought.
"Are you sure everything's fine?" she asked once again.
Nick snapped out of his daze.
"Ever think I just want to be alone to think?" he snapped.
Leigh was a little shocked and hurt by his outburst.
"You want to be alone? Fine." she said as she slammed the cottage door shut on her way out.
Nick winced as he heard the door slam shut.
"What have I done now?" he said to himself.
Leigh stormed down the road, not exactly knowing where she was going. She just walked until she got to a huge rock overlooking the frozen lake. She sat down and stared off into the distance. At first she was mad at Nick, but then she got upset about it. She didn't understand why he was suddenly being rude to her. She thought back to the night before, how Nick dragged Brian aside and talked to him, and how he acted today. A thought hit her, maybe Nick wanted to break up. He had been mean, and if he was going to he would probably ask Brian what he thought.
And the worst part was, Leigh realized she loved him.
And the tears came pouring down her face.
Back at the Cottage, Anna saw Leigh storm out, and she ran inside.
"What happened?" she asked.
"I want to tell her something, but I don't know if I should. So I have been really caught up in my thoughts, and she was asking me if I was okay. And I snapped on her." Nick said feeling bad.
"What have you been thinking so hard about?" Anna asked.
"I love her." Nick admitted.
"So what's the problem here?" she asked.
"I can tell she doesn't feel the same way." he said.
"Nick, don't be so oblivious to things, go find her and tell her."
With that, Nick grabbed his coat, and headed outside.
At the lake, Leigh had been sitting there awhile, just crying and thinking. It started to snow lightly and it was beginning to get dark. She decided she might as well head back to the cottage, because if Nick had his mind made up, there was nothing she could do about it.
After searching for a while, Nick saw Leigh sitting on the rock near the lake, crying her eyes out. He walked up next to her and sat down.
"Leigh, I -" he said, but she stood up.
"Don't say anything, I already figured it out. I know you want to break up." she said, as new tears streamed down her face.
"Break up? That is the last thing in the world I want to do." Nick said.
"But you talked to Brian last night, and you yelled at me today, and ignored me. So I thought that you hated me." Leigh said, wiping her eyes.
"I'm sorry I acted like that." he said putting his jacket around her.
"Sorry I got so upset." she said warming up.
"No, I shouldn't have yelled at you, I have just been thinking a lot lately." he admitted.
"About what?"
Nick looked away, then looked back at her.
"I love you." he said.
Leigh's eyes lit up.
"I love you too." she said.
Nick smiled and kissed her romantically.
Then they walked back to the cottage together. When they got back, Anna could tell Nick told her by the smile on Leigh's face. When Brian got back, Nick told him what happened. They ate dinner, watched a movie, then they all went to bed.
