"Hello?" Leigh answered.
"Hey it's Anna. I need a favor from you, but listen before you say no okay?" Anna said quickly.
"Oh man....okay." Leigh replied.
"Well, you know my friend Brian? We are meeting for lunch and he is bringing his friend Nick. And me and Brian didn't want Nick to be lonely...so we offered you to come." Anna finished, hoping her friend wouldn't be too mad.
"No! No. I am not going on a date with some Nick, I don't even know who he is!" replied Leigh, determined not to be set up with some stranger.
The truth was, Leigh had never had a boyfriend, or even been kissed. She had a few friends who were boys, but that was it.
"Brian is my friend and Nick is too. The isn't a date! It's just friends going out." Anna explained, praying her friend would give in.
Leigh sighed on the other line, "I'll be right over."
A few minutes later, Anna's doorbell rang and she answered it. Leigh came in and just as they were about to start talking, a car pulled up outside and beeped the horn.
"I see he is Mr. Charming too" Leigh said sarcastically.
Anna rolled her eyes at her friend, and pulled her out the door.
Inside the car, Nick and Brian saw Leigh and Anna walk out.
"Woah..." Nick murmured out loud when he saw the girl behind Anna.
She was average height, brown silky hair, and beautiful blue eyes. Nothing above average but she had caught Nick's eye.
Brian laughed at Nick's staring. Anna opened the door and slid into the back-seat, Leigh came in after her.
Brian and Nick turned around "Hi!" they both said.
"Hey guys!" Anna replied, "This is Leigh."
Anna continued. Leigh didn't say anything, so Anna poked her in the side.
"Oh, hi." Leigh let out a little embarrassed.
Nick let out a little laugh and Brian shot him a glare. Anna had told Brian that Leigh already didn't want to go.
"So Leigh, how've you been?" Brian asked.
"Pretty good. What about you?" she replied.
"The same..." he said.
Leigh had known Brian for a couple of years now, and she thought he was a sweetie.
"So, um..do you like to play basketball?" Nick asked.
"No, I don't really know how to play." Leigh said back.
"Oh" was all Nick said.
Luckily, the reached the cafe, so they didn't have to continue awkward conversation.
They got inside, sat down and ordered pizza and drinks. They all started talking, Nick kept asking Leigh a lot of questions, trying to get to know her better, but she didn't seem to be interested in the conversation at all.
Anna saw Leigh was getting restless, so she asked her to come to the ladies room with her. The girls were no sooner inside when Anna burst out.
"So?"
Leigh looked at her "So what?"
Anna sighed, "So what do you think about Nick?"
"I don't know, so far he's annoying me with tons of questions! And he's nosey too." Leigh said.
"He's trying to get to know you better!" Anna cried out.
"Whatever. Can we leave soon?" Leigh asked.
Anna huffed and started back to the table.
Back at the table, Brian was asking Nick what he thought of Leigh.
"I like her, she's quiet, but there's just something about her." Nick said but stopped talking quickly because the girls were coming back.
After lunch, they all piled into Nick's car and started to drive home.
Leigh wrote down her number for Nick, not thinking twice about it. She had given Nick enough signs she wasn't interested, she thought he would never call.
