Lauren took Brittany inside to clean her up. She took out the first aid kit and cleaned up her nose, and wiped away her tears. Brittany was back to normal with the exception of a few bruises.
"Britt, why are you crying? Tell me what is going on!"
"I'm going to tell you, just give me a chance." Her tears fell harder and she sobbed. "Lauren, I'm in love with AJ." Brittany fell to the floor and began to cry uncontrollably.
"WHAT?" Lauren screamed. "I thought you loved Nick!" Lauren got up off her chair.
"I though I was too," Britt explained, her eyes pleading to her best friend. "My feelings changed. "
"How could you do this to me?" Lauren demanded.
Lauren ran out the front door down the street to Nick's house before Brittany could say another word. Brittany didn't bother running after her; she had no strength. As she walked into the kitchen she went for some rum in the liquor cabinet and began to drink. A few minutes passed and Lauren was on Nick's door step. She walked right in, not even knocking. She wished she had. There was Nick and Mandy, kissing passionately right in front of her. Lauren paid no mind to it....she was too angry at Brittany. She saw AJ sitting at the kitchen table with his head in his hands.
"AJ! I need to talk to you now!" she hissed. AJ nodded, and he followed Lauren without saying a word.
"Did you know that my best friend is in love with you?"
"No, but I do now. Since when?" AJ was confused.
"I don't know, but I'm so pissed. How could she do this to me?" Lauren paced back and forth on the front lawn.
"There has to be a reasonable explanation fo this Lauren." He tried to calm her down.
"Oh, there better be."
"I thought she and Nick liked each other...what went wrong?"
"Does it look like I know?" Lauren sneered. "I wouldn't be asking you."
"Calm down babe, we should just go talk to Brittany and see what is up, okay?" AJ grabbed Lauren's hand as she walked by and kissed it. "Everything will be okay, I love you...no one else."
Lauren smiled and led AJ back inside to get AJ's shoes.
They walked inside finding Nick and Mandy in an embrace. Lauren ignored it, but AJ couldn't help but wonder what was going on. As they walked to Brittany's house, AJ held Lauren's hand, and she felt so safe being with him. Lauren opened the door, and Britt was lying on the kitchen floor with a bottle of alcohol in her hand. AJ and Lauren rushed to Britt's side and they tried to get Britt to regain consciousness.
"Brittany! Wake up! Can you hear me?" Lauren laid down on the floor next to her friend, hoping she was okay.
"Ohhhhh yesshh, fiiiiiine. " Brittany could hardly talk.
"Let's get you up off the floor." AJ lifted her up " Lauren, go get her some cold water."
Lauren got a glass out of the cabinet, filled it with water and brought it to her friend. Brittany drank it quickly, and within 30 minutes or so, Brittany was not as drunk as before.
"Okay....now, we need to talk. " Lauren looked at Brittany.
"Uh huh , about what?" Britt asked oblivious to Lauren's stern tone.
"I want to know when you decided you were in love with AJ!" Lauren demanded.
"I dont know! I'm sorry...it's just the way I feel."
"Yeah, but I thought you loved Nick. "
"I do! Believe me, I do! But I love AJ too." Britt sighed.
"Okay, I'm not trying to hurt you, but you do realize that AJ and I love each other... and we don't want anything to get in the way of that." Lauren felt sorry for her friend, but deep down inside she knew that Brittany was in love with Nick. She was just confused right now. She had to be.
"I agree with Lauren, Brittany. We love each other and no one else." AJ added.
"But what about me?" Brittany began to cry.
"You have Nick...he loves you very much!" AJ tried to help, but Britt wouldn't listen.
"I don't have Nick, I lost him earlier today," she wailed.
"No you didn't, he still loves you Brittany. Call him and try to work things out . I can't be happy unless you are, you are my best friend...I love you! Right now, you're just confused and you need to sort out your feelings." Lauren said.
"Maybe you're right," Brittany debated. "You and AJ are special. I'm sorry I started all this."
"It's ok! " The two friends hugged and AJ smiled; he was glad that the girls worked things out.
