Chapter 13

Annoyed, Andrea opened the door and flashed her boyfriend a fake smile. She had been busy painting her nails when his knock bothered her. What really angered her was that she couldn’t be a bitch about it or anything because he was too rich for her to risk losing. Not that there was anything she could do that would make him leave her, it seemed, but she didn’t want to chance it. “Hey, baby! What are you doing here?” she asked, throwing her arms around him and kissing him on the cheek.

Nick pushed her away. “I…listen, we need to talk.”

Her smile faded into a worried look. “You’re going to break up with me, aren’t you?”

After going in and sitting down on the sofa, he finally replied. “Actually, yeah, I am.”

“You’re breaking up with me? What the hell did I do wrong?” she shouted angrily.

As he calmly answered, she continued to yell, trying to block out what he was saying. “You didn’t do anything wrong, Andrea. It was all my fault.” He hesitated for several seconds. “I got another girl pregnant.”

She stopped mid-sentence. There was no way she could have missed that. “What other girl?”

He winced. “Liz.”

“That little reporter slut?” she asked in disbelief. “I thought we agreed you were gonna stay away from her!”

“We were drunk, Andrea. We went out with the guys, and I woke up in bed with her. I can’t remember even doing anything. And please don’t call her a slut.”

Suddenly, her angry facial expression changed to one of desperation and despair. “You can’t leave me for her, Nick. Please, baby, don’t leave me. You can’t leave me.”

He had to force himself to listen to what she had to say. He didn’t want to be here. “Why not?”

“Because…I’m pregnant, too.”

“WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?” Everyone in the building had to have heard that scream, he thought. “How? We only did it twice, though, and it’s already been a month!”

“I know, but it’s true.”

“And you’re just now telling me this?”

“I’m sorry, Nick. I only found out a few days ago. I can’t raise a baby by myself, and I can’t bear the thought of giving it up.”

“It’s mine?”

“Of course it’s yours!”

“Aw, man.” He buried his face in his hands, trying to decide what his next move should be. “I gotta go. Can I have some time to myself? I need to think about all this,” he requested.

“Sure. Please don’t leave me, Nick,” she pleaded one more time before he left the room.

Nick sighed deeply. This was gonna be a fun situation to get himself out of.
